    Job Overview:
    We have added a second Assistant Principal position to our Middle School starting in the 2023-24 school year. The Palmyra Area School District is seeking an Assistant Principal for Palmyra Area Middle School, which houses approximately 900 6th-8th grade students in a team-concept schedule. Applicants should have a strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction, have experience working with middle school students, possess strong communication skills, and display an ability to work in a collaborative manner. The anticipated annual salary of this position is $85,000 - $95,000.
    Tentative timeline - Applicants will be required to submit a video interview (instructions will be sent via email) by August 6, 2023 at 11:00 PM EST. If selected for an interview, in-person interviews will be held on August 9, 2023.
    Responsibilities:
    Responsibilities include general support and leadership for the middle school students and staff; classroom observations/evaluations; collaboration with Middle School Principal to support continuous improvement of middle school programming. Under the Danielson rubric here are the main job responsibilities of this position:
    • Strategic/Cultural Leadership
      • Help develop, revise, implement, and evaluate curriculum
      • Assist with the implementation of goals and objectives of the school and the middle division
      • Assist with the analyzing student/teacher data to coordinate effective assistance to ensure academic/professional growth
      • Assist in the creation of a shared decision-making environment with stakeholders and distributive leadership
      • Recognize students, staff, and stakeholders in a systematic manner towards attainment of strategic goals
      • Assist in determining the needs and request additional professional/support staff for building
    • Systems Leadership
      • Shall assist the Assistant Superintendent, Director of Curriculum & Assessments, and the Building Principal to leverage resources which include, but are not limited to: inventory of teaching materials for the school, providing feedback for creation on the middle division budget, managing both human and fiscal resources to best support the school operations
      • Assist in ensuring a high quality, high performing staff by interviewing candidates and making recommendations for hires, and partnering with administration for tenure, retention, and dismissal of employees
      • Assist in providing onboarding, training, and professional development needs for all staff
      • Assist with compliance with Federal, State, and LEA mandates by presenting and implementing mandates in a manner by which opportunities for improvement are created
      • Assist with establishing and implementing expectations for students/staff by creating opportunities for students/staff to develop expectations and goals for improved achievement, and creating, communicating, and implementing expectations and procedures that provide and maintain a safe learning and working environment
      • Assist with a system of communication that provides timely information and feedback in a variety of formats to reach all stakeholder
      • Assist in the management of conflicts and other school-based problems in a fair, democratic way
      • Help ensure the safety of students and staff which include, but are not limited to: planning and supervising all required emergency drills and preparedness programs, analyzing and adjusting emergency plans based on data, feedback, and mandates, and communicating with stakeholders in regard to safety issues
    • Leadership for Learning
      • Assist in the creation and facilitation of building level goals and improvement plans
      • Participate in the creation and development of district strategic plans and goals with administrative team
      • Assist in the revision of building goals and improvement plans based on data and staff input and revise district level goals with Cabinet team members based on district performance
      • Help engage staff to use data, make appropriate instructional decisions, use assessments to improve instruction, and collaboratively work with colleagues to improve student learning experiences
      • Monitor teacher effectiveness through observation using the Danielson domains
      • Assist in the hiring and retention of good teaching candidates using quality interview practices
      • Work collaboratively with building level teams to evaluate the progression of student reaching academic/behavioral goals
      • Work with the middle division to provide scheduling that maximizes teaching and learning opportunities
    • Professional/Community Leadership
      • Maintain membership in applicable local, state, and national professional associations and attend conferences and meetings that are necessary to maintain the position of professional leaders
      • Maintain administrative certification through participation in Act 45 approved trainings, sessions, and course work
      • Assist with interpreting school program to parents and the community, encouraging staff to speak to the public in to interpret the school program, encouraging staff to take part in community civic affairs, and working with staff to gather information concerning programs and activities and share through a variety of communication channels
      • Initiate, create, and maintain active relationships with all stakeholders through the community and serve as a representative of the middle school and middle division
    Qualifications:
    • Administrative I/II Principal PK-12 (1115) required
    • Master's degree required
    • A minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a professional educator
