Position Summary

Provides quality care and services to patients by assisting dentists and other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. Maintain efficient and productive patient flow through timely, accurate and professional preparation of patients and patient information, including taking and processing x-rays. 

Description of Primary Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for patient care
  2. Provide necessary dental services to patients of Palms Medical Group within his/her scope of practice in accordance with stated policies, procedures and protocols of PMG.
  3. Review the patient’s health history, dental chart and oral history.
  4. Set up instrument tray, prepare dental materials and assist the dentist during dental procedures.
  5. Assist the dentist during dental emergencies.
  6. Record dental treatment information into the patient’s dental chart.
  7. Communicate postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
  8. Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  9. Responsible for inventory management
  10. Inventory and submit all order requests via appropriate channels.
  11. Clean, disinfect and sterilize dental instrumentation. 
  12. Clean, organize and maintain professional work areas.
  13. Responsible for administrative duties 
  14. Record and review patient medical histories.
  15. Assist with audits and surveys. 
  16. Perform any other duty assigned to improve the efficiency of PMG.

Requirements

  3. Expected to travel and cover other sites during dental assistant absences

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

  1. Employee shall be able to read and interpret written dental instructions 
  2. Employee will know how to process radiographs
  3. Employee will know how to expose dental radiographs
  4. Employee will know how to efficiently operate NextGen
  5. Employee will be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word and Excel 

Licenses & Certifications:

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent 
  2. Certificate of completion from an accredited Dental Assistant program with Expanded Functions 
  3. Current BLS (basic life support) Certification

Physical/Mental/Emotional Demands:

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Viewing a computer monitor for long periods of time
  • Bending
  • Stretching / Reaching
  • Walking short distances
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Operating office equipment (computer, fax machines, telephones and copy machines)
  • Reading forms / Instructions / Patients Charts 
  • Communicating well to people of various ages, educational levels, cultural backgrounds in person or by telephone
  • Exposure to potentially violent / irate patients
  • Health / Safety Consideration of Position
  • Exposure to chemical infectious / contagious illness
  • Exposure to chemical and inhalation of antibiotics during reconstitution
  • Exposure to X-Ray radiation 
  • Exposure to a variety of scents and odors
  • Must utilize universal precaution in clinical or exposure situations as prescribed by federal state, and local guidelines and /or laws
