Project Manager (Telecommunications Industry)

JOB PURPOSE

Oversees telecommunications projects and outside plant technical services staff performing cable staking, design, and count assignments – both aerial and buried, construction, engineering and design.

JOB DUTIES

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises all activities associated with a particular project(s) with emphasis focused on quality, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Serves as primary liaison between the company and the client providing services tailored to the needs of the client.
  • Responsible for the overall management, supervision, assessment, and implementation of work assignments; assigns tasks and sets daily work responsibilities; inspects work regularly for conformance with company standards and design.
  • Manages and provides technical oversight to all project staff; orients and trains new employees; recommends or provides training to employees as needs arise; reviews time reports of staff and ensures accuracy.
  • Interfaces with the client on a regular basis to ensure the company is meeting established expectations and delivery schedules/timelines.
  • Investigates and resolves all customer complaints.
  • Provides personnel development through performance appraisals; recommends personnel actions (i.e., merit, transfers, disciplinary actions, termination); investigates problems and takes corrective action; promotes employee morale by motivating, challenging, and supporting field site staff.
  • Ensures all company equipment and property is properly maintained.
  • Responsible for monitoring PEC employee safety practices on the project.
  • Communicates regularly with OSP staff concerning work scheduling and project coordination.
  • Documents project-related correspondence including (but not limited to) client discussions/meetings, contractor disputes/commitments, employee disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Maintains a personal log of daily activity; performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of Telecommunications Experience

Minimum of 5 years of Outside Plant Engineering, Design, and Construction Oversight.

Minimum of 5 years of RUS Construction Specifications and Construction Contracts and reporting.

Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge in the Telecommunications field is necessary; requires the ability to effectively organize and direct the work of others; strong management and decision-making skills necessary; the ability to exercise judgment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, clients, and staff; ability to analyze needs and recommend solutions; effective communications skills necessary both internally and externally as well as oral and written; must be comfortable with Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk and/or stand long periods of time on even and uneven ground; ability to drive a lengthy period of time as well as sporadically throughout the ten-hour workday; ability to work outside in varying temperatures; ability to stoop & bend frequently while in the field; some light to medium lifting occasionally; ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form. Must be willing to travel!
