Summary
THIS IS A CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT AND EXAMINATION PROCESS.

Assist teacher, at an assigned center or site, with related instructional activities designed to stimulate learningSupport the teacher in the care and supervision of students.
REPORTS TO :
Receives general supervision at site by certificated staff as well as direction from the Director of Early Childhood Education, or designee.
Representative Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Assist teacher in implementing educational and developmental activities for children.
  2. Assist with planning of curriculum.
  3. Assist with child's personal, physical needs, meals and snacks, safety, etc.
  4. Assume leadership role in absence of teacher.
  5. Confer with appropriate staff member prior to intervention in any potentially stressful family situations.
  6. Participate in case conferences as requested.
  7. Perform paperwork tasks as required; maintain confidentiality of records and information on Head Start families.
  8. Develop skills in methods of teaching.
  9. Take increasing responsibility in educational and developmental processes.
  10. Attend and participate in weekly center meetings.
  11. Assume a degree of responsibility for updating bulletin boards.
  12. Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. High school Diploma or GED certificate required.
  3. Successful completion of twelve (12) units college level Early Childhood Development education (including core courses such as child/human growth & development, child/family/community relations, and program/curriculum) with current enrollment in an accredited Early Childhood Education program to completion of twenty-four (24) units within two years; such individuals must be enrolled each semester or quarter in an educational program until the 24 units have been completed, and
  4. Hold or qualify for a Child Development "Associate" Teacher Permit (or higher permit). May be required to hold or present proof of application for Associate Teacher Permit to qualify as required by the Early Childhood Education program;
AND
Possession of and ONE of the following:
a) Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or enrolled in a CDA program, or
b) Associate's degree (in any area), or enrolled in a program leading to such degree, or
c) Baccalaureate's degree ( in any area), or enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.

Employment Standards

Applicants MUST upload official college transcripts AND the Child Development "Associate" Teacher Permit for attachment to the application prior to submitting. Examination
The examination components consist of a qualifying written multiple-choice exam. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance.
After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. When eligibility lists include open and promotional lists of qualified persons through competitive examination, the promotional list will be used first, unless otherwise stated on this bulletin.
Work Year
This position typically works part-time at either three hours and forty-five minutes (3.75) or five hours and forty-five minutes (5.75) hours per day dependent on program needs, and observes a 185 day work calendar.
Salary The salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate five-step salary schedule for this position. The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.
Holidays and Leaves Seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year, pursuant to the District's Collective Bargaining Agreement with California Schools Employees Association Chapter 296 (CSEA).
Sick leave shall be granted in the proportion of daily hours worked. Vacation is earned at the prescribed rate as part of compensation, and does not become vested until after completion of the initial probationary period.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This job is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment, and require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead and horizontally; dexterity of hand and fingers to manipulate instructional materials, writing instruments, computer keyboard/mouse; see and hear sufficiently in normal range with or without correction; speaking for exchange of information.
The job is performed under conditions with potential exposure to indoor/outdoor fumes and odors, bloodborne pathogens, and/or illness; climate-controlled environments and adverse weather conditions.
