Palm Valley Animal Society is Hiring an Events Coordinator Near Edinburg, TX

REPORTS TO: Director of Development

LOCATION: PVAS Locations as needed, primary office at Andrews Center

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Palm Valley Animal Society is looking for an energetic Events Coordinator to help enhance our visibility in the local community. The Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with planning successful events that advance the recognition of the company and the brand. The successful candidate will also be charged with discovering new opportunities within the community to establish a stronger bond with pet lovers and increase our lifesaving through them.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify/organize community events relevant to the shelter's marketing and community goals.
  • Facilitate monthly and eventually twice-monthly Community Vaccine Clinics including registration, run of the event, payment processing, and client interaction
  • Assist with planning and managing events while coordinating other projects as needed
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors and venues
  • Working within a budget
  • Create and maintain professional relationships with vendors, referrals, and referring businesses
  • Prepare the Events portion of the monthly board of directors report
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of experience working in an animal shelter or other related agency is desirable, but not required
  • A background in event planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.

Skills and Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a high-volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Self-motivated, great attitude and team-oriented are a must.
  • Must have the ability to render quick, responsible decisions under stressful circumstances.
  • Knowledge and understanding of herd management practices and principles as they apply to shelter health.
  • Must be able to use and understand shelter/medical software programs and other basic equipment associated with day-to-day operations. Experience with ShelterLuv a plus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships and communications with staff, volunteers, animal control officers, and the general public.
  • Ability to help establish and maintain best practices regarding sanitation, health, and animal well-being.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to odors or airborne particles including animal fur and toxic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Frequent driving between facilities is required as well as consistent availability after-hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
