Job Summary:

As a member of the instructional team, the English Teacher is responsible for the daily instructional delivery of curriculum, assessment, and classroom management that aligns with the school’s vision, mission, and values while also meeting state and national academic standards. The role will be responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents. The English Teacher regularly meets with students to advise and plan for students individual learning plans, providing coaching and mentoring in an advisory capacity.

The English Teacher works as a part of the instructional team in order to meet the needs of all students. Because building relationships is a critical component of this learning environment, the team works together to identify student needs that may be barriers to success. Teachers collaborate with team members to analyze different means of meeting student needs and communicates with students, parents, and other team members about student progress and plans for next steps.


Essential Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Provide small group instruction to students enrolled in an alternative school setting;
  • Plan and implement student instruction and assessment to achieve curriculum objectives;
  • Work effectively with small groups of struggling students at all levels;
  • Identify and select appropriate instructional materials aligned to content standards;
  • Implement relevant information from research and professional literature on best practices in instruction;
  • Participate in professional development as opportunities become available;
  • Analyze formal and informal data and accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports regarding student instruction and achievement;
  • Keep student attendance;
  • Prepare necessary lesson plans that correlate with student needs;
  • Plan and follow daily classroom instruction activities;
  • Work closely with teachers and other colleagues to develop and build teaching skills;
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, student needs and assessments;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual education service plans for students;
  • Provide essential supervision to students in their education requirements;
  • Administer assessments to ascertain academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting;
  • Monitor academic progress of students in their coursework;
  • Monitor student progress towards graduation;
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and community as needed;
  • Become proficient in the use of computer based instruction and software;
  • Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data;
  • Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner;
  • Manage the learning environment and coach students as an advisor and mentor;
  • Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members;
  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by the Principal

Required

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree;
  • Appropriate teacher certification;
  • Willing to acquire Reading Certification and add to state certification;
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Outlook.

Preferred

  • Evidence of educational experiences after college (fellowships, summer study, or graduate course work to pursue greater depth in a subject area, specific instructional methodology, curriculum development, special education, technology, etc.) ;
  • Evidence of working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology
  • Experience working with student population in some capacity;
