POSITION: SNAP Benefits Outreach Assistant – Bi-lingual English/Creole or English/Spanish

SUPERVISOR: Manager, Benefits Outreach Program

STATUS: Hourly/Non-exempt

Job Summary:

The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as Food Stamps) Outreach Specialist assists outreach efforts to connect Palm Beach County residents with food assistance through SNAP.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide pre-screening consultations, application assistance and follow-up to interested clients in person, over the phone and online
• Support the Benefits Specialists by scheduling and coordinating client appointments
• Answer calls and guide callers through troubleshooting and navigating the public assistance system
• Greet and assist visitors to the Benefits Outreach Program
• Use technology including in-house software, MS Office and the SNAP online database to conduct data entry, case management and tracking
• Collect and assemble required documentation
• Assist clients with the electronic ACCESS application on a periodic basis
• Assists Benefits Specialists as required at various sites on a periodic basis
• Collaborate with the team to improve customer service
• Maintain mandatory training required by the Department of Children and Families (DCF)
• Perform other assigned duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Bi-lingual – English/Haitian-Creole or English/Spanish
• Minimum of two years administrative experience working in an office environment or related field
• Previous customer service experience a plus
• Ability to work independently and proactively in a range of settings both on-site and off-site
• Ability to responsibly handle sensitive client data
• Ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to set professional boundaries with clients
• Excellent organization skills; detail-oriented
• Proficient in utilizing computer, web applications, and the internet
• Proficient using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Working knowledge of general office procedures
• Valid Florida driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
• Level 1 background check required
