Palm Beach Atlantic University is Hiring a Director of Student Activities, Involvement, and Leadership (SAIL) Near Beach, FL

SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Activities, Involvement, and Leadership provides leadership for student activities and student leadership development for the campus. The Director is expected to provide campus activities, programming, and leadership development that are consistent and appropriate for the community values and Christian principles at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Director will oversee the Steering Committee, Student Leadership, The Wave Team, clubs and organizations, New Student Orientation, and Welcome Week.


JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

Oversees the administration, operations, and management of the SAIL office.

  • Provides primary supervision for the Assistant Director of SAIL, Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, and SAIL student leaders and office workers.
  • Assists with selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating Steering Committee, The Wave team members, and Welcome Week student leaders.
  • Manages the SAIL budget.
  • Assists with evaluating and assessing SAIL services and programs and compiles assessment reports for review by the Vice President for Student Development, President, and/or Board of Trustees.
  • Prepares reports as requested by the Vice President for Student Development, including, but not limited to, weekly work reports, monthly reports, statistical data, and survey results.
  • Participates in on-campus and off-campus training opportunities, as requested by the VP for Student Development, including but not limited to reading current articles and publications, networking with other Student Development professionals, and conducting research on pertinent issues.
  • Attends and participates in Student Development meetings, retreats, and committees as assigned.
  • Assists with recruitment and retention efforts for the university as assigned.


Oversees and coordinates leadership development programming for student leaders.

  • Recruit’s speakers to present on topics of Christian leadership for a minimum of four Student Leadership events per year.
  • Coordinates with Advancement to secure sponsorships, event branding, and speaker engagements.
  • Coordinates the end-of-year leadership award selection process.
  • Plans the end-of-year celebration for all student leader groups.
  • Coordinates activity sessions with Admissions during open houses and group visits.
  • Assists with the PBA Lead program throughout the students’ four years on campus.


Coordinates, participates, and represents Student Development in Campus Programming

  • Assists with Campus Recreation events, such as Sailfish Cup.
  • Manages The Wave to market campus programming.
  • Develops relationships with PBA departments and community partnerships to enhance campus programming.
  • Assesses student needs to determine the content and quality of programming on campus.
  • Provides oversight to the SAIL Steering Committee on planning events throughout the academic year.
  • Creates and maintains healthy traditions on campus that reflect PBA’s Christian identity.
  • Collaborates with Alumni Relations and Advancement to plan programming relevant to homecoming weekend.
  • Maintains and coordinates the university student programming calendar.
  • Represents SAIL to prospective students and parents at Admissions Open Houses and New Student Orientation events.
  • Attends and maintains active involvement in university functions on-campus (e.g., Graduation, Homecoming, Student Leadership Retreat, and Welcome Week) and represents the university at off-campus functions.
  • Maintains social media accounts for the different functions of SAIL.
  • Completes special projects and duties for the Student Development Division as assigned by the VP for Student Development

Oversees and coordinates programming for incoming students, including New Student Orientation, Accelerate, and Welcome Week

  • Recruits, selects, and trains the Steering Committee, Fish Leaders, and Fleet.
  • Collaborates with Residence Life, Workship, Parent Relations, Athletics, and Spiritual Development to ensure a program that welcomes new students to PBA’s campus.
  • Creates a high level of expectation for customer service among the student leadership, staff, and community partners.
  • Plans and implements a Welcome Week program for new students in August and January.
  • Establishes the dates for New Student Orientation activities in collaboration with other offices to ensure the best timing during the summer.
  • Collects the necessary information to include in New Student Orientation.
  • Collaborates with Advancement to identify community partners who will provide financial support to our orientation program.
  • Manages the New Student Orientation schedule to ensure students receive the best information efficiently.
  • Coordinates the team of student volunteers and staff.
  • Communicates information on registration and details for New Student Orientation to new students and university personnel.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation in coordinating programming for the Accelerate Summer Program.

JOB FACTORS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Baccalaureate and Master’s degree in College Student Development, Counseling Psychology, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or related field required.
  • Maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Have 1-3 years of Student Activities, Leadership Development, Residence Life experience, or other related experience.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and align across a wide variety of people.
  • Possesses strong analytical and communication skills are an essential element of the position.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the concerns and needs of a diverse student population.
  • Manifests sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities; ability to work strategically by prioritizing competing demands.
  • Shows a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Gives attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Handles information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner.
