Pallet, Square Peg & Weld is Hiring a Manufacturing Engineer Near Everett, WA

Here at Pallet Shelter PBC, we recognize the importance of your role as a Manufacturing Engineer I and how it effects the success of the organization and our team members. Your work in this area has a profound impact on our short, medium, and long-term success. The following is a list of expectations and disciplines you will be engaged in and perform daily.

Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer I is a subject matter expert, responsible for timely resolution of production problems and system improvements. Your efforts will be focused to help manufacturing, production and assembly personnel build and produce a cost-effective, high-quality product in a safe environment at the same time developing highly productive team members. Maintain close daily contact with Supply Chain, Product Development, Engineering, and support staff as needed to ensure the overall production effectiveness, reflective of current conditions throughout the facility. This position will deal with varying types of documentation such as but not limited to work instructions, standard work, inspection documentation, Drawings, cut lists, non-conforming material forms, Bills of Material (BOM's), etc. This role reports to the Director of Manufacturing.

In the first three months you will:

  • Learn existing production processes and gain understanding of how resources are currently utilized (i.e., personnel, equipment, etc.)
  • Be available to get to know people, build relationships and have fun!
  • Support the achievement of manufacturing goals related to Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety
  • Builds and refines processes to ensure overall production system excellence
  • Maintain improvements through sustaining behaviors, operating with discipline and rigor
  • Use and ensure the safe use of tools and equipment including, precision measuring instruments and computer numerical control (CNC) equipment
  • Support departmental goals - scrap, build performance (i.e., yield, rolled throughput yield, etc.), parts/panels per hour (PPH), etc.
  • Perform root cause analysis of production issues and obtain corrective actions utilizing the appropriate support staff
  • Develop documented processes for production operations
  • Ensures parts are produced to appropriate quality level and actively participate in corrective actions and root cause analysis
  • Accurately completes and/or ensures completion of all documentation and data analysis in a timely manner
  • Ensure production personnel are trained as required to support process and/or equipment changes and relative documentation
  • Follow and enforce all safety requirements for this position and all company safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

After three months you will be able to do everything, you have learned so far and:

  • Partner with Product Development and Engineering in configuration design and development during the New Product Implementation process, serve to advise Engineering of best practices and keep Production informed of project status and key developments
  • Become knowledgeable in continuous improvement methodologies
  • Assist in the development and take ownership of a continuous improvement program
  • Aide in identifying hidden process and/or equipment capacity

Ongoing you will need to do everything above and:

  • Take the lead in establishing best practices throughout production
  • Actively pursue growth and knowledge in your ability to understand continuous improvement methodologies (i.e., Lean, Six Sigma, TPS, TPM, etc.)
  • Implement good manufacturing practices (GMPs) wherever possible

In the future you will have a chance to:

  • Gain experience with process development
  • Lead work on projects and mentor others
  • Potential to become certified in Lean Six Sigma
  • For other opportunities you may be required to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and other required vaccines or be willing to do so prior to transition into the role

Education and Experience: Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years-experience in manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of safety, quality, production, and maintenance management
  • Experienced in the operation of a variety of equipment in an industrial setting
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Communication – Clearly conveys information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message
  • Contributing to Team Success – Actively participating as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals
  • Customer Focus – Ensuring that the customer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet customers’ and own organization’s needs
  • Collaboration – Working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Quality Orientation – Accomplishing tasks by considering all areas involved, no matter how small; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks; being watchful over a period

  • Experience working in production or manufacturing operations
  • Ability to accurately proofread engineering drawings and articulate errors

Bonus points for:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 Years of demonstrated experience in a similar capacity
  • High-level of emotional intelligence
  • Knowledge of FDA, GMPs, ISO, OSHA, or other regulatory requirements
  • Licensure and/or certification in areas such as Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Project management, or similar

Must have requirements for this role:

  • Be able to read and write in English
  • Well-developed logical deductive reasoning skills
  • Be able to take and pass a pre-employment drug test and be willing to submit to regular randomized drug tests
  • Well-developed communication skills are critical
  • Willingness to submit personal information for WSP background check

Physical Requirements:

Sensory Perception: Reasonable accommodations will be considered and may be made as appropriate to ensure the safety of all personnel as it relates to this role.

  • Seeing: Must be able to see well enough to read blueprints and documents, see equipment and gauges, and safely drive a forklift and/or other mechanized lifts (e.g., Articulated lift).
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with team members and management; and listen to equipment.
  • Standing/Walking: Must be able to move about the production area by stepping over and/or bending under objects; and the ability to stand up to 12 hours around hot machinery.
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up items from the floor and climb ladders and stairs.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift more than 100 pounds with reasonable assistance and able to lift 50 pounds with or without reasonable assistance.
  • Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to grasp and use equipment and tools.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Safety eyewear and footwear are required
  • Bullpen style office with varying levels of activity and noise throughout the day
