The Kalamazoo Carton Converting Facility is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with easy access to the beautiful Great Lakes region and the cities of Chicago and Detroit. Opened in 1952 and employing 175 team members, the facility prints and die cuts refrigerated gable top cartons for a variety of national and regional brands, primarily supplying important dairy nutrition to schoolchildren throughout the US.

Responsibilities

The Shipping & Inventory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the shipping and receiving areas, including the timely shipment of finished products and completion of shipping documents in order to meet customer requirements. Insure a consistent application of the labor agreement and enforcement of all rules, policies and procedures in accordance with company policy. Also responsible for receiving, distributing and proper storage of inbound goods. Also responsible for insuring a safe and healthy working environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all daily operations of the shipping and receiving areas including the timely shipment of finished products and completion of shipping documents in order to meet customer requirements. Also responsible for receiving, distributing and proper storage of inbound goods. Control costs within the department and find new ways to provide the same services at a lower cost without sacrificing the safety of employees.
  • Insure that a high level of safety is maintained within the department and enforce all safety rules and regulations. Also insure that all department employees comply with all company rules, policies and procedures and insure a consistent application of the labor agreement.
  • Direct the work of other shipping and receiving employees as well as communicate with and update employees on a daily basis to meet customer requirements. Ensure each employee receives proper training and instructions to do their job safely and provide them with the correct tools to do their jobs.
  • Communicate with production departments in order to meet carrier needs for on time deliveries to customers. Manage overtime and crew shifts according to the needs of the department and customers.
  • Oversee department quality, performance, goals, cost, training, attendance, moral, and environmental issues to achieve positive results.
  • Resolve employee issues/problems. Ensure that all team members are working together to achieve thesame end results and give disciplinary action when needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Education, Skills and/or Experience Required

  • Willing and able to work onsite 7am-5pm Monday-Friday with some Saturdays as needed
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent applicable experience required
  • Supervisory skills, maturity, and sound judgment
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and motivate people and get results through others
  • Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of product
  • Experience with brokers and asset carriers a plus
  • Ability to interpret and administer SQF Code 2000
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Requirements
  • High energy, with exceptionally strong work ethic
  • High trust, integrity above reproach and character that reflects company values
  • Demonstrated knowledge and high level of computer skill and familiarity
  • Knowledge of business and management principles
  • Good meeting/presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a sense of empathy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure
  • Strong team player, able to think and act in ways fully supportive of other team members
  • Other duties as required

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, squat 8 to 10 hours a day
  • Must be able to wear all necessary safety equipment
  • Must be willing to work on manufacturing production floor
  • Standard office duties apply
