Teaching assignments are for a 15 week term. You can be assigned 1-2 teaching assignments or clinical groups, depending on program need and your preference for 8-12 hours per shift.
General Description:
PLU maintains a part-time nursing faculty pool in all areas of nursing specialties (Medical/Surgical, Maternity, Mental Health, Childbearing, Childrearing, Advanced Practice and Simulation) for available assignments during the academic year. Work location in Tacoma, WA.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Clinical assignment is for a 15 week term. You can be assigned 1-2 clinical groups, depending on program need and your preference. The days and times for each clinical appointment will be set by the specific clinical location, but you can expect 1-2 days a week, for 8-12 hours per shift. This allows the students to experience what their new profession will really entail after graduation. As a result, your students will be counting on you to pass on your experience in a realistic, but supporting learning environment.
Other duties may include classroom or laboratory teaching.
In addition, all teaching roles include creating assignments for students and student grading and evaluation, being available to students outside of clinical or class time, attendance at orientation meetings, attendance at course team meetings and input and assistance with other aspects of the programmatic needs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Appropriate experience/credentials relating to the subject matter in relation to the assignment.
  • Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years experience practicing as a nurse
  • Two years experience practicing as an ARNP if applying for an Advanced Practice position
  • Previous teaching experience in nursing
Work Conditions:
Conditions vary by course and include a variety of clinical practice settings.
Physical Requirements:
Depending on the assigned teaching, may require prolonged standing and walking significant distances.
