General Description:
The Grant Development Specialist will join the Office of Sponsored Programs at Pacific Lutheran University at an exciting time, as a recently adopted Strategic Plan sets the stage for growth and investment in grant seeking activities that support faculty scholarship, student programming, and other university initiatives. As a member of the sponsored programs team, the Grant Development Specialist will partner with the Post-award Grants Manager, Executive Director for Sponsored Programs, and other university stakeholders to provide a continuum of support across the grant lifecycle. As such, we welcome candidates with a range of experience in administering grants, which may include pre-award, post-award, and compliance.
The Grant Development Specialist will oversee the following activities: Identifying funding opportunities that advance research and programming priorities; guiding faculty and staff partners through the development and submission of proposals; curating, developing, and disseminating grant seeking resources that build capacity and increase competitiveness for grant seeking; and ensuring final proposals comply with internal policies, sponsor requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
The Grant Development Specialist reports to the Executive Director for Sponsored Programs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Identify and prioritize funding opportunities (both federal and private) that support faculty scholarship, student learning, and other university initiatives.
  • Guide faculty and staff through the development and submission of accurate and competitive grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
  • Assist faculty and staff in meeting pre- and post-award compliance requirements.
  • Develop grant budgets in accordance with OMB Uniform Guidance and sponsor requirements.
  • Conduct final review of proposals to ensure compliance with internal policies, sponsor requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Curate, develop, and disseminate grant seeking resources and tools to build capacity and increase competitiveness among our faculty and staff partners.
  • Develop and host training activities for faculty and staff related to grant seeking.
  • Maintain the sponsored programs website.
  • Track grant related metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of university sponsored programs and/or previous grant writing experience.
  • Ability to design, implement, and direct strategic grant proposal development initiatives.
  • Creative, organized, and goal-oriented, coupled with a high level of initiative, energy, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize evolving needs, and resolve problems in a timely and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, organize, motivate, and manage multiple projects.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy in interactions with campus partners, donors and community relationships, with the ability to earn and maintain the confidence of internal and external partners.
  • Commitment to life-long learning and personal growth.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience in pre-award and/or post-award sponsored programs administration. Education can substitute for some experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience writing and managing federal grants.
  • Experience in grant writing and budget preparation.
  • Experience with Uniform Guidance and compliance.
  • Experience with foundation fundraising.
  • Knowledge of Washington foundations.
Work Conditions:
  • Office setting; remote/hybrid possible.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Long periods of sitting and keyboarding required.
