- Assist Campus Services Manager in interviewing and hiring personnel to fill vacancies as they occur. Interview, hire, and supervise student cleaning assistants.
- Trains new employees in current custodial methods, including instruction in safe cleaning practices, proper chemical and equipment use and personal protective equipment.
- Assure all rules and regulations of the University and the department are followed by cleaning services staff.
- Schedules shift personnel and work assignments to ensure buildings are cleaned to established standards and work orders competed in a timely manner.
- Performs daily inspections of buildings to assure standards are met.
- Prepare performance evaluations and takes appropriate disciplinary action of the staff if required.
- Documents attendance and manages time sheets.
- Reviews and approves staff supply order sheets, and orders supplies.
- Fill in as custodian when short of staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to effectively supervise, schedule and evaluate employees’ performance.
- Ability to train personnel on proper cleaning methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to document staff performance and take notes.
- Ability to recognize and initiate corrective actions for safety hazards.
- Ability to efficiently manage areas of assigned responsibility.
- Ability to effectively keep Campus Services Manager informed to all pertinent information.
- Ability to work in a team environment and without close supervision.
- Thorough knowledge of cleaning practices and specific knowledge of safety procedures related to the use of hazardous chemicals.
- 2 years of experience in all phases of custodial cleaning and the use of cleaning equipment.
- Experience supervising a team.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License (must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years).
- Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check, physical exam, pass PLU’s Driver’s Certification Training
- Work is performed primarily inside several different buildings during the course of their shift and occasionally outside weather conditions.
- Employees will be occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions.
- Employees may occasionally work in high precarious places.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, and kneel in the completionof normal cleaning duties. Other repetitive motions are required.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds unassisted as a regular part of cleaning duties. May occasionally be required to lift or move over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Must be physically capable of using a backpack vacuum during each shift.
- Good hearing and vision. Able to visually examine cleaning products for labeling accuracy.
