Job Title: English Learner (EL) Services and Community Partnerships Coordinator (Community Liaison)

Reports To: Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI); Head of School

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Classified Schedule – Column B; New employees usually start between $22.45 and $26.86, depending on experience with this role.

Customary Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours/day during the 190 day 2024-25 school year.

Position Summary

The English Learner (EL) Services and Community Partnerships Coordinator is an essential piece of creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community at Pacific Collegiate School (PCS). This critical team member will serve as a community bridge between PCS and multilingual families (with a special emphasis on Spanish speaking communities) throughout Santa Cruz County. In addition to serving as a resource to current multilingual students and their families, they will perform outreach to diverse/underrepresented communities and build community partnerships with organizations throughout the county that will support the school's Strategic Plan. In addition to their responsibilities as a Community Partnerships Coordinator, this team member will also work with the ELD Teacher and Instructional Assistant to coordinate services for English Learners (ELs) and Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) students. Service coordination may include ELPAC testing coordination and administration, progress monitoring, supporting students’ self-advocacy skills.

Roles & Responsibilities

Record Keeping and Data Collection for EL and Redesignated Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) students

  • Work with the Registrar to create EL and RFEP lists at the beginning of the school year.
  • Update students’ cumulative files with ELPAC scores and RFEP monitoring data.
  • Maintain RFEP Monitoring Program: collect data on student progress each grading period; communicate with teachers and parents of RFEP students regarding need for additional support and/or progress; work with parents, teachers and student support team to determine whether each student is ready to exit from RFEP Monitoring Program after 4-year window.
  • Participate in Student Support and Advisory Team (SSAT) meetings to discuss tiered support for EL or RFEP students.

ELPAC Testing

  • Obtain and maintain certification to administer ELPAC testing to eligible students.
  • Administer annual ELPAC testing (initial and summative).
  • Communicate with parents/caregivers regarding ELPAC testing and results.

Parent/Family Communication

  • Maintain a contact list of multilingual families, noting their preferred mode and language for school communication.
  • Communicate with multilingual families regarding ELPAC, school information, events, and opportunities. Share information about students’ academic successes and challenges and make appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Facilitate Multilingual Family Support and Advisory meetings.

Student Advisory and Academic Support

  • Communicate with EL and RFEP students’ teachers regularly to monitor progress in each class and determine need for additional support (inside and outside the classroom).
  • Work with ELD teacher to offer drop-in support for EL/RFEP students during Tutorial periods.
  • Form positive relationships with students and connect students to school supports and resources (e.g. counseling, after school tutoring).
  • Guide students in developing self-advocacy skills including communication with teachers.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), engage and empower students in alignment with DEI goals and initiatives.
  • Support and empower student voice and leadership, especially among BIPOC and traditionally underrepresented students.

Community Outreach and Family Support

  • Under the direction of the Director of DEI, perform outreach to diverse/underrepresented Santa Cruz County communities to encourage more students from those communities to enter the PCS admissions lottery.
  • Support the Director of DEI in establishing and maintaining regular communications with liaisons in diverse/underrepresented communities in support of mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Support school meetings and communications with Spanish language interpretation and translation.
  • Work with the Director of DEI to identify and connect students and families to resources in the community and school.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with PCS parents/caregivers and ensure that their questions, concerns, and suggestions are promoted to and addressed by PCS leadership.
  • Serve as a resource for new and current PCS families, particularly those from diverse/underrepresented communities.
  • Serve as a resource to the PCS faculty and staff regarding issues and initiatives pertaining to the fostering of an inclusive and supportive school culture.
  • Work with the Director of DEI and the Parent Volunteer Association (PVA) to recruit, train, and meaningfully engage PCS parents/caregivers as volunteers and active members of the school community.
  • Communicate with students and parents/caregivers regarding student attendance and to increase student success.
  • Attend and and facilitate parent engagement and outreach events at the direction of the Director of DEI.

Minimum Requirements & Competencies

  • 20 or more units of college coursework in sociology, psychology, or related field OR at least 1 year of paid or volunteer experience working with a variety of organizations and community groups, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Passion for educational access and equity.
  • Understanding of the concepts and issues of underrepresented and historically marginalized communities, particularly within Santa Cruz County.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently and effectively in both Spanish and English.
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and be responsive to the needs of students and adults of different ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of local resources and service agencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a wide variety of connections and relationships throughout the community, to work actively with community members/partners and school personnel to meet educational and organizational needs.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in performance of job duties.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professionalism and confidentiality regarding school business and students/families.
