About Neurodevelopmental Services 

Neurodevelopmental Services (NDS) provides essential support for children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, sensory processing and behavior difficulties, language and social communication challenges, learning disabilities, trauma, and other cognitive and developmental impairments. Pacific Clinic’s new Neurodevelopmental Center located at 1302 N. 4th Street in San Jose aims to ensure children and teens have access to comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluations to receive accurate diagnosis, as well as provide a unique and exceptional learning environment for treatment that focuses on social developmental and behavioral skill acquisition through a variety of therapeutic group experiences.

Our group service-delivery model at our center includes:

  • Parent Training Groups
  • Social Skills groups (ages 18 months – 21 years of age)

Our interdisciplinary team consists of speech and occupational therapists, psychologists, psychological associates, pre-doctoral psychology trainees, board certified behavior analysts, and registered behavior technicians. We work together to ensure children and teens receive expert diagnostic evaluations and a smooth transition to therapeutic services if diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental condition.

JOB SUMMARY

Works within the vision, mission, and philosophy of the agency. Provides assessments and related developmental and psychosocial services to youth and their families by engaging and partnering with parents/caregivers so that they can meet the developmental needs of a youth. This position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Conducts informal and formal assessments to evaluate ability level, needs, and factors interfering with success in school, home, and community through the use of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments (such as Battelle Developmental Inventory – 2nd Edition, Sensory Profile-2, Brigance Communication Screener, Peabody, etc.), skilled observation, history, and interviews.
  2. Engages with and supports individual client and family goals and needs in coordination with other agencies including, but not limited to, the San Andreas Regional Center (SARC), Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE), FIRST 5, and other community organizations.
  3. Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team to develop treatment plans and make recommendations, including home programs and referrals to other services as needed.
  4. Participates in staff meetings, case conferences, training, family meetings, and professional consultation as necessary.
  5. Provides caregivers and team members with education on behavioral and psychosocial approaches, self-care, coping skills, safety planning, and community interactions to enhance the youth’s daily functioning.
  6. Provides direct therapeutic intervention, consultation, and support to youth and families in a variety of settings.
  7. Develops and implements individualized treatment programs that include:
  8. Utilizing CBT approaches to facilitate participation in desired activities.
  9. Play activities that instruct as well as aid clients in interacting and communicating with others.
  10. Reduction of environmental barriers that limit client participation in family, learning, and community-based activities.
  11. Modification of environment to support improved attention and self-regulation.
  12. Implementation of prevention techniques.
  13. Maintains required program documentation and completes timely and accurate reports.
  14. Provides re-assessment and appropriate follow-up with families after services have been rendered to determine if service was successful or additional service is needed.
  15. Coordinates, disseminates, and collects outcome evaluation instruments.
  16. Follows states laws regarding confidential information in verbal and written communication.
  17. Meets program productivity requirements.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Driving to appointments with clients and their families or other key contacts.
  2. Physical interactions with children of variable ages such as but not limited to games, sports, and other activities.
  3. Performs other duties as directed by the Clinical Program Manager.
  4. Performs other responsibilities, as assigned, to support department/business needs.

CORE ABILITIES

  • Lead discussion, conceptualize well, and communicate effectively.
  • Advocate for families served within the larger community and other macro systems.
  • Mobilize and educate families about formal and informal resources to support families.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Masters (MA/MS) in Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with low-income children and families preferred.
  • Occupational Therapist License required.

OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Child Abuse Index Check (CAIC) background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver's license with two years of experience driving and a clean driving record may be required.
