Job SummaryThis Public Health Strategist participates in population based activities and the Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan. This position develops innovative, evidence-based interventions to improve population health, evaluates program efforts, and disseminates findings to contribute to evidence-based intervention knowledge base.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodations to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.Coalition Leadership:Develops meaningful community partnerships. Takes leadership role on community coalitions and community action groups. Develops, coordinates, facilitates, implements, and evaluates coalition work plans, activities, goals, and objectives in the community.Education and Outreach:Develops innovative, evidence-based interventions to address community health needs. Implements, monitors, and evaluates interventions. Leads health department efforts involving social determinants of health and health equity.Data Collection and Analysis:Collects and analyzes community data to ensure programs reflect community needs.Board/Committee Participation:Represents the health department on local and statewide committees and boards.Emergency Response:Other duties as assigned (i.e.: pandemic response)Supervision ExercisedNoneMinimum Education QualificationsEducation and/or Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Public Health, Social Work, Education, or other related field required.
  • Public speaking experience, community coalition participation, previous grant writing and program implementation preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities QualificationsIn order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Current WI driver’s license.
  • Access to a motor vehicle and commitment to meet and maintain the County’s automobile insurance requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention theory and practice.
  • Working knowledge and demonstration of inter-professional relationships and leadership roles in the agency and in the community.
  • Ability to apply time-management skills and ability to prioritize job-related activities.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations with respect and cultural humility.
  • Ability to communicate with people of varying levels of education, understanding, and values.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible scheduling to address program needs.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
