Ozarks Regional YMCA is Hiring a Sports Coordinator Near Springfield, MO

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Sports Coordinator assists with scheduling games and staff, field maintenance, and filling in when needed to officiate sports matches held at centers, camps, or off-site at other facilities. He or she attends, monitors, and regulates games and trains staff to enforce rules during games, as well as how to demonstrate the Y’s Core Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibilities while communicating with staff, sports participants, and parents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain courts and fields prior to the season, including any set up.
  2. Know, demonstrate, and interpret YMCA philosophy to staff, officials, players, parents, and coaches.
  3. Works closely with the Program Director to advance the growth and development of the Sports Program staff through training, coaching, mentoring and guidance to ensure exceptional safety, care and customer service.
  4. Be knowledgeable, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind. Proper reporting of injuries to Program Director.
  5. Work closely with the Program Director to address concerns of staff, members, participants, and parents.
  6. Assist with the promotion of Sports programming including new and innovative ways to strengthen program quality and enrollment; identification of areas of improvement and proactive problem solving.
  7. Possess the ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds, varying ages, abilities, opinions, and perceptions and manage large groups.
  8. Attends and participates in other YMCA program activities as needed, staff meetings, and trainings.
  9. Demonstrate leadership and take initiative to greet and assist all members, potential members, program participants and volunteers in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities.
  10. Recruits new talent and retain participants through building positive relationships with the team and the community. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers, connecting them with each other and the YMCA.
  11. Ensure program quality and monitor staff performance and member service.
  12. Serving as a role model and an upstanding representative for our cause-driven organization
  13. Practicing our four core values: Respect, Caring, Responsibility and Honesty
  14. Ability to work flexible hours as program needs arise.
  15. Collect and record scores.
  16. Organize and put away team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  17. Perform miscellaneous related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 18 years of age with 2 years of related experience.
  2. Two years officiating sports. Must have a passion for sports.
  3. CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications required.
  4. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  5. Excellent written communication skills. 
  6. Proven verbal communication skills that impact human relations at all levels of responsibility, strong interpersonal and leadership skills. 
  7. Experienced teambuilding, programming, and project management skills 
  8. Ability to take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to respond to Emergencies at any time with sound judgment and physical lifesaving ability.
  2. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  4. The physical ability to supervise, instruct and lead groups of part-time staff and children relating to sports.
  5. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. 
  6. Ability to work in various outdoor temperatures including high heat and humidity.
  7. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
