Ozarks Regional YMCA is Hiring a Lead Lifeguard Near Buffalo, MO

POSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lead Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be knowledgeable and adhere to Safety Policies, Procedures and Emergency Response Plans. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind.
  2. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  3. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
  4. Act as a positive role model for the pool staff assuming a leadership and mentor role.
  5. Train new hires in safety protocol and procedures, including the sign in/out system, incident reporting, and appropriate procedures and techniques for surveilling members in the pool areas.
  6. Consistently demonstrating YMCA character development and the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.
  7. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  8. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  9. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
  10. Be willing and available to assist in covering shifts that are out of ratio. 
  11. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
  12. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  13. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  14. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
  15. All other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Experience in leading others.
  3. Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
  4. Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
  5. Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  6. Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  7. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
  2. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. 
  3. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. 
  4. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility. 
  5. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
  1. Visual ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. 
  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
