We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Chemical Operator at the Muscle Shoals Plant with our Manufacturing Facility located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Essential Job Duties:

·Major Accountabilities: PotCarb Unit / Warehouse / KOH Unloading

·Takes routine data and makes routine adjustments on the process equipment in each of the process areas to maximize the safety and efficiency of the processes.

·Starts up and shuts down equipment as necessary to maintain operations and to compensate for changes in operating load.

·Performs all duties and procedures pertaining to the processes, as defined in the Operating Directives, or as may be added due to a change in the process.

·Performs the necessary duties to respond to a wide variety of emergency conditions which may arise in the area.

·Samples products as required, so that shipments will meet customer specifications.

·Maintains product inventories and packages products according to customer requirements.

·Coordinates activities with the PotCarb unit, Warehouse, Traffic, and the Lab.

·Inspects bulk trucks and hopper cars, properly loads product according to customer and weight requirements.

·Takes routine data and makes routine adjustments on process equipment in each of the process areas to maximize safety and efficiency of the process.

·Fills fiber drums and supersacks with various grades and weights of product, and loads trucks, when required.

·Spots, opens, washes, and checks condition of cars; completes railcar inspection checklist as required.

·Unloads KOH tank cars when required.

·Monitors KOH unloading, dock, and KOH/potcarb solution storage facilities.

·Operates the forklift as required.

·Performs regular housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe area.

·Complies with all plant safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.

·Provides routine security surveillance.

·Participates in all routine safety meetings.

·Meets all Safety and Environmental Performance Accountability spreadsheet requirements.

·Assists in the isolation and preparation of equipment for Maintenance.

·Performs troubleshooting and minor maintenance on area equipment.

·Adheres to area equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.

·Initiates corrective action for process, safety, or environmental deficiencies.

·Maintains training and qualification standards for the position.Must continue training and qualification for the Lead Technician to be able to upgrade.

·Performs the duties and tasks of the plant as assigned by supervision.

·Supports OxyChem’s Equal Employment Policy and Affirmative Action.

·Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s ISO Quality System.

·Adheres to USP/FDA requirements.

·Maintains a high awareness and support of the Environmental Awareness Program.

·Performs troubleshooting of chemical processes.

·Monitors operation and starts/stops pumps at both the PDW and Fleet Harbor stations.

·Supports the Food Safety Management System.

  • Performs any tasks as qualified and assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Qualifications - External

·High School diploma or completed GED.

·Process Technology Degree OR minimum of 2 years relevant work experience (e.g. production, packaging, loading, or maintenance) in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment.

·Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

·Ability to work a rotating shift; weekends; holidays; overtime; and respond to callouts.

·Ability and willingness to serve as member of Emergency Response Team.

·Ability to read, write and speak in English.

·Proficient in Microsoft applications

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.

·Must possess valid driver’s license.

·Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 55 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. Must work in temperatures ranging from winter lows to summer highs, and in all weather conditions.Must be able to work while wearing full protective equipment and a variety of facial coverings, including full-face respirators, hoods, and supplied-air breathing equipment.Must satisfy the medical “ability to wear” for respiratory use.Must be able to lift and handle bags of material weighing up to 56 pounds.Must be able to exert force to open and close manually operated valves in the area with reasonable accommodation.Must be able to climb single-section vertical ladders up to 30 feet and climb stairs, and work from elevations of up to 90 feet above ground level.Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces.Must routinely work on uneven surfaces.Requires normal dexterity to perform the routine daily activities of standing, sitting, stooping, bending; and have good eye, hand, and foot coordination.
