JOB CLASS: 2060

JOB TITLE: HEALTH SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR – OHS

Education/Training:

  • A minimum of an Associate Degree or technical diploma with clinical training
  • Current certification, registration and/or licensure in health field of study
  • Certified Instructor for First Aid and CPR (may pursue upon employment)
  • Professional health care professions eligible to teach the secondary health science program/Allied Health major: Registered Nurse; Medical Assistant; Physician’s Assistant; Respiratory Therapist; Medical Laboratory Technician; Licensed Practical Nurse (Associate Degree); Radiological Technologist

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of work experience within the health/medical field with two (2) years being within the past five year.
  • A maximum of one year of the required work experience may be satisfied by completion of an accredited vocational preparation program for the occupation to be taught.

Certification:

  • See: 16 KAR 2:020 Occupation-based career and technical education certification
  • Issuance of one year Provisional Certificate. Completion of three (3) semester hours of credit in the occupational area OR successfully completing the New Teacher Institute (NTI).
  • Certification for teaching Vocational Education specialization in: Allied Health/Health Science

PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the locations provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities of students and evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day through appropriate parent teacher conferences.
  • Individually and cooperatively works with other teachers, supervises pupils in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on assigned committees.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Represents the school in the community effectively and in a positive manner.
  • Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
  • Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
  • Adheres to the requirements of any District or school employee handbook, Owensboro Board of Education policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs all other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and are covered by local board policy or law.
  • Acts in accordance with the by-laws and policies as set forth by the Owensboro Board of Education, KRS and KAR, and applicable Federal laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Owensboro Public Schools.
