Position: Sales Associate/Cashier- Part Time or Full Time

Reports to: Store Manager & Store Supervisor/Management Team

Direct Reports: None

Position Philosophy: The Sales Floor Associate’s primary responsibility is providing exceptional customer service at all times while also participating in the general upkeep of the store. Once assigned to a department the Associate will be responsible for the upkeep of that specific area of the store while still contributing to the overall store upkeep as needed. The Sales Associate will assist in the receiving, stocking, pricing of all merchandise and help maintain a clean and orderly merchandise presentation and overall store cleanliness. The Sales Associate will be trained to Cashier. This will allow for the sales associate to be able to fill in as a Cashier as determined by the Store Manager.

Seasonal/Part Time Sales Associate/Cashier:
Option #1 School Semester Schedule:
16-30 hours/week. If a student, possible to have up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
If in school we will work with your school schedule to find times that work for you and us.

Option #2 Summer Seasonal Employment:
32-40 hours/week. Start May 1st and end August 26th. Summer Seasonal could be up to full time 40 hours per week or as little as 32 hours per week.

Option #3 All Year Employment:
16-24 hours/week. We work together to create a specific schedule & hours that works for both Owenhouse & the employee. This will be a semi-permanent schedule that could change as needed for semesters and summer coverage. Is consistent and communicated ahead of needs for both the employee & Owenhouse.

Customer Service:

• Provide a positive representation of Owenhouse Ace Hardware.
• Proactively assist customers in solving problems.
• Greet customers entering and throughout the store.
• Thank customers when finished and when they are leaving the store.
• Possess a friendly outgoing demeanor.
• Work well with customers as well as associates.
• Ensure all pages and calls are answered promptly, courteously and effectively.
• Forward any customer complaint that cannot be handled to a member of management.
• Possess strong product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products.
• Assist customers throughout the store with personal, customized service based on the premise of amazing every customer, every time.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Store Operations:

• Assist in creating a positive, professional and safe work environment.
• Assist with receiving, checking in and stocking of merchandise throughout the store.
• Assist with maintaining back stock levels.
• Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and outdoor merchandise area.
• Assist with providing a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and ad merchandise.
• Assist with merchandise resets through the store.
• Provide assistance to Department Specialists, i.e. price changes, special orders.
• Ensure signage is current throughout the store.
• Communicate any Store Support Center issue to the Store Manager for follow up.
• Communicate any merchandising, cost control or sales idea to the Store Manager.
• Participate in store meetings.
• Be professional in appearance and actions.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

• Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers by name, when possible, when they are leaving the store.
• Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates.
• Answer and monitor all calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.
• Communicate any problem or issue that requires management assistance.
• Continually build product knowledge base and possess the ability to assist customers with store layout and product location.
• Assist in pricing, stocking, marking and bagging of merchandise.
• Be aware & conscious of any shoplifting activity. Notify a Supervisor immediately.

Register Operations:

• Follow all cash register transaction procedures.
• Responsible for accurately counting change back to customers.
• Clear customer checkout lines quickly and efficiently.
• Adhere to any Store program or promotion that may require implementation at the cash registers.
• Participate in all store and Cashier meetings.

Front End Appearance and Upkeep:

• Keep the front end, including checkout areas and entrance doors neat and clean at all times. Face and dust front end.
• Assist with keeping impulse counters stocked and faced, rotate fresh merchandise in as seasons change.
• Ensure fresh ads are stocked in shopping carts at all times.
• Ensure forms and supplies are stocked at all times.
• Assist with decorating the front end.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Other Essential Requirements:

High School or GED equivalent.

Experience:

Retail experience preferred.

Customer service experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and climbing.
