Opportunity:

The Ovid-Elsie Area Schools has an immediate opening for Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball program. The successful candidate will oversee the hiring of assistant varsity coaches as well as make evaluations on current junior varsity coaching staff. The girls basketball team competes in the MMAC and is a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. OEAS takes pride in student-athlete participation and the development of high levels of performance, accountability and responsibility in the classroom and on the playing fields.

Job Description:

The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the girls basketball program. The coach must demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development, sportsmanship, integrity and character. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills. They must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the skills and strategies of the sport of basketball as it pertains to interscholastic athletics.

Job Responsibilities:

• Annual rules education, CPR Certification, and adhering to all MHSAA guidelines.
• Select, instruct, and coach the team through the season at practices and contests
• Oversee the development of players at the freshman and junior varsity levels
• Create a positive learning experience for all members of the team
• Establish a summer competition and camp schedule.
• Establish a summer strength and conditioning schedule
• Maintain all records, statistics, and awards information
• Maintain ongoing communication with players, parents, and media
• Organize and run youth Red Cedar program
• Monitor program budget
• Devise and implement a fundraising structure for the girls basketball program.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of three years of high school basketball coaching experience is required.
• A minimum of one year of varsity head or assistant coaching experience is preferred.
• Previous head coaching experience at varsity level is preferred
• Possess a great love of the sport and high interest in helping individuals reach their highest potential
• Good role model for student-athletes
• Current knowledge of rules, fundamentals, teamwork and the ability to relate to and teach teenage students
• Strong commitment to building a successful program for student-athletes
• Evidence of successful coaching experience at the varsity level preferred
• Evidence of expertise in teaching the fundamentals of individual skills and team play
• Evidence of the ability to develop a successful program
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational skills
