Job Summary and Qualifications

Under direction of facility senior team and assistant administrator, the Staff Chaplain and Volunteer Supervisor provides pastoral leadership, education, services, and manages the facility volunteer department, which includes volunteer chaplains and hospital volunteers.

What You Will Do in This Role:

• Collaborate with facility educators, department members, medical center physicians, nurses, and other department/staff.
• Provides formal support in all services of ministry, including ones standardized by the departments, e.g., spirituality groups, new admit visits, Code Response, ensuring completion of Advance Medical Directives, serve as chaplain member of treatment teams, bring leadership employee assistance, memorial services, special occasion or seasonal worship, referrals and clergy liaison, customer recovery, etc.
• Provides formal support and oversight in all services of volunteers, including volunteer onboarding, volunteer orientation and assignment, and volunteer oversight, with the goal of growing our medical center volunteer program to include more volunteer chaplains and more hospital volunteers.

What Requirements You Will Need:

• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree from an Associate Theological School or Southern Accreditation of Colleges and Schools accredited program preferred; A minimum of two (2) units of certified Clinical Pastoral Education, four (4) units preferred.
• Board certified or Board eligible by the Association of Professional Chaplains and current ecclesiastical endorsement required. Ordination preferred.
• Good oral/written communication and interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
• Intra-personal awareness sufficient to use of self in ministry. Empathetic, objective listening; ability to relate ecumenically and be inclusive; religious and spiritual understanding of diverse approaches to meaning.
• Ability to be prophetic and pastoral as circumstances require; collegial in approach; ability to meet diverse pastoral/spiritual needs sacramental/sacerdotal/ritual); conduct religious worship, organize and conduct formal services and accomplish duties and responsibilities with timeliness; ability to hear, receive, and learn from feedback.
• Ability to lead others, namely volunteer chaplains and hospital volunteers.
• Clinical pastoral education in a hospital setting is preferred.

Overland Park Regional Medical Center is a 340 bed facility offering acute medical services to our patients. We are Johnson County’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Level II Trauma Center. We have an Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center. Our hospital is a premier area destination for Women's & Children’s healthcare services. We offer the region’s only Maternal Fetal Health Center to care for critically ill mothers and their babies. Our hospital has an antepartum unit, a labor and delivery unit, and a Level III NICU. We have four emergency rooms, including a dedicated Pediatric emergency room and two freestanding ERs located in Olathe and Shawnee. Each year our colleagues treat over 45,000 patients.
