PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the supervision of the Resident Services Director and RN, the CNA/Resident Assistant performs direct resident care, administers medication and other RN delegated tasks, assists with activities of daily living, and provides a safe environment in which the residents live.
JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assists residents with the following Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s): tub bath or shower, perineal care, dental care, personal grooming, dressing and undressing, applications of make-up, hearing aids and eyeglasses. Elimination needs including providing for and changing protective padding, toileting by offering bed pan, urinal or taking to bathroom, Foley catheter care. Ambulating, assisting with walkers, transferring with gait belt or mechanical lifts.
  2. Administer medications to residents.
  3. Answers all call lights promptly.
  4. Completes all required documentation in a timely and appropriate manner.
  5. Communicates any change in condition and/or significant event to Resident Services Director and/or RN in a timely and appropriate manner
  6. Encourages active participation of residents in meeting their needs by promoting individualized care, attending activities, and family involvement
  7. Takes and records temperatures, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight, blood sugars and other tasks as assigned.
  8. Assists residents with meals, including feeding assistance as needed and encourages the use of adaptive devices.
  9. Explains all procedures to residents before carrying them out.
  10. Receives assignments and instructions from the Resident Services Director and/or RN and refers to resident care sheet for specific care needs.
  11. Is aware of and demonstrates proper hand washing, isolation techniques, standard precautions, food handling, linen handling, and cleanliness of resident areas.
  12. Participates in and attends department meetings, in-services, and is responsible for accumulating 15 hours of education to maintain certification.
  13. Light Housekeeping as needed or directed.
  14. Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of the facility; can demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures as well as working knowledge and compliance with facility policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control, universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment and handling of hazardous materials.
  15. Reports abuse and neglect to Resident Services Director and/or RN and is aware of reporting procedures.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor(s) or Resident Services Director/designee. 

Qualifications


Experience: Prefer experience working with memory care and elderly populations in assisted living setting.
Knowledge of electronic medical record keeping system.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
CNA Certification- preferred.
CBRF Certification-required 
Medication Administration Certification- required (Will train qualified applicants)
Other: Must maintain complete confidentiality and discretion. Read, write and speak the English language.
