This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

We are dedicated to making fundamental changes in the outdoor and fitness industries. Day after day, story after story, Outside Interactive, Inc., proves that a hike, a climb, a run, a ride, a day skiing, or a yoga practice can change lives - and change the world.

As the Sr. Product Manager for Content & Community, you’ll own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the future of our Editorial properties including our most popular such as OutsideOnline.com, WomensRunning.com, YogaJournal.com, VELO, and Climbing.com. You’ll collaborate very closely with engineering, marketing, editorial, studios (Watch/Video), and product design to bring amazing content to life and work with cross-functional partners across Outside to learn, iterate, and shape the direction of the product over time.

What you will do:

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Outside’s editorial properties and ensure that it aligns with the overall product and company vision of inspiring people to get outside.
  • Deeply understand customer needs, and be the champion and voice of Outside’s readers and members.
  • Engage in technical product research and design, write product briefs and user stories, and collaborate with your partners in marketing, engineering, and design to ship features that we are proud of and that our members love.
  • Make tough tactical prioritization decisions, balancing short-term needs with long-term product direction for our brands.
  • Define and own the metrics of success. Evangelize those metrics throughout the company, and use them to drive insights and new product hypotheses.
  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to effectively build, launch, and communicate new product features.
  • Discover and validate new product opportunities for Outside.
  • Help us achieve our vision and execute our strategy by uncovering and developing new ideas for our brands.
  • Provide strong mentorship, guidance, and leadership to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development while ensuring a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

This describes you:

  • You have 7 years of product management experience, working on consumer applications or editorial publications/magazines where you’ve demonstrated your ability to discover, define, and deliver product opportunities.
  • Your path to product management came from designing, building, or launching products in fast-paced, early-stage environments.
  • You thrive on pushing the envelope and love owning uncertainty.
  • You have profound experiences with CMS (Content Management System) and content syndication platforms, with a significant portion of your career dedicated to designing and/or working with advanced content publishing concepts, including syndication, translation, and workflows. Your expertise in this area is extensive, reflecting your deep experience and involvement in the field.
  • You have experience with customer research and know how to get feedback at the right time from the right customers to help inform your product decisions.
  • You have demonstrated experience collaborating closely with product designers and engineers to ship high-quality products that delight users.
  • Your strong commitment to user experience shines through in your work, as you genuinely care about creating exceptional mobile and web reading experiences. You have a keen eye for detail and appreciate the significance of the "little things" that contribute to making the reading experience delightful for users.
  • You have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • You have experience with modern software development and delivery practices.
  • You’re entrepreneurial-minded and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You handle uncertainty with confidence. You are execution-focused and driven to ship great products to customers.

Nice to have:

  • You possess hands-on experience with consumer subscription products like Piano.io, Zuora, and Recurly, demonstrating your proficiency in utilizing these platforms to manage and optimize subscription-based offerings.
  • You have a systematic approach to designing metered content and paywall experiences, leveraging your expertise to enhance user engagement, monetization strategies, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • You have a solid background in working with geographic content, including maps, trails, map layers, and mapping products. Your experience encompasses products where maps play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional user experience, particularly in the context of outdoor adventure. Your expertise in this area allows you to effectively integrate and optimize map-related functionalities, enhancing the overall user experience and ensuring seamless navigation in outdoor settings.
  • Your expertise lies in seamlessly integrating video, audio, and written content to craft captivating and immersive experiences that cater to a diverse readership/membership base. Through your experience, you have demonstrated a deep understanding of how these different content formats can complement each other, resulting in compelling and engaging experiences.
