Job Description:
The Lead Social Media Editor will contribute to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by overseeing the editorial and copywriting process for our social media team. This lead will oversee 1 to 2 social media editor interns ensuring that ONC’s brand voice is carried out throughout all social media materials and content is grammatically correct. The Lead Social Media Editor will delegate tasks to their interns/volunteers, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise. They will provide guidance and support to interns, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles. The Lead Social Media Editor will actively coach interns/volunteers, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the team. All lead editors are a part of the editorial desk that is overseen by the Managing Editor. The Lead Social Media Editor is the last set of eyes on all social media content created. They are responsible for reviewing and revising content including, but not limited to video content and captions, static content and their captions, story content, etc. They may also review and create copy for captions and marketing campaigns.
This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. The duration of this internship can be as short as a semester or as long as a year or more and can be extended. Preferably, this leader will commit to 6 months.
Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:
Oversee the social media editorial process at ONC.
Delegate tasks to interns and volunteers based on their strengths and expertise.
Oversee reviewing and revising content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax.
Communicate with various departments to ensure that content and copy are created in a timely manner.
If interested, write, develop and edit copy for content and captions for a variety of social media platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), Tik Tok and Linkedin.
Effectively communicate with other ONC team members (Slack, Zoom etc.).
The Lead Social Media Editor should have the following skills, education, and experience:
This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in Marketing, English, Communications, and/or related fields
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required
Knowledge of basic APA formatting required
Google Workspace experience preferred
Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
Ability to attend the bi-weekly organization-wide meetings
Ability to attend bi-weekly meetings with all editorial leads
Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
