OUR LADY OF VICTORY SCHOOL is Hiring an Early Childhood Student Support Specialist Near Mount Vernon, NY

This person would be responsible for :

  • School Consultations

Children engage in challenging behaviors in their classroom setting. The specialist would be available to observe and consult with the school staff and create an individualized behavior management plan to help support your child’s learning and development.

  • Professional Development TrainingsThe consultant would conduct large and small group training on a variety of topics, such as Behavior Management Strategies in the Classroom, Early Childhood Development, and Supporting Children with Special Needs in the Classroom, among other PD’s .
  • Family Support Program Workshops

The specialist will host monthly parent workshops, topics will include but not limited to: Toilet Training (Monthly until Jan) How to help your child succeed in Prek (Sept), Social Emotional (Nov), Homework Routine (Jan), Promote Independence (Feb) Understand Child’s behavior (March), Routines/Structure (Pk attendance - April), Avoid Summer Slide - Gr. K Readiness (May)

  • Classroom ConsultationThis includes classroom observations and meetings with staff to discuss general teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students and provide action plans for next steps.
  • Behavior CoachingThe Specialist is available to work with classroom staff (along with the child’s family) to address the challenging behaviors and/or specific learning needs of individual children in your classroom. They will develop FBAs and BIPs and ensure team implementation.
  • Special Education Coordination

This specialist will assist teachers completing the referral process and assist parents with the evaluation process. They will attend and actively participate in the IEP meetings, and provide school leaders notes.

In addition,

  • Assist in providing a safe, warm and supportive classroom atmosphere that supports each child’s individual growth and development
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, physical and educational needs
  • Be warm and nurturing with children
  • Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times
  • Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the school at all times Assist in providing a safe, warm and supportive classroom atmosphere that supports each child’s individual growth and development
  • Engage in conversation with the students at all parts of the day, centers/meal time/walking breaks/ etc.
  • Assist the teacher in observing the skills of individual students, assessing their strengths and the areas that need improvement
  • Supervise the class if the teacher needs to step out of the classroom
  • Enforce school and classroom rules
  • Contribute to the SMORE newsletter weekly
  • Provide daily recap summaries and next steps
  • Provide small group SEL instruction, based on students’ needs
  • Support and assist school staff and students as per school leaders’ directives
  • Perform other duties as assigned/needed as per the school leaders’ directives
