Position Summary

The Director of Prison Ministries will serve prison ministry partners, chaplains, and former and current incarcerated men and women with resources which encourage, enrich, equip, and engage them in bible engagement, and help advance God’s local and global kingdom in the U.S. correction system. This role will be key in developing new and deepening existing relationships with churches and strategic partners in prison ministry through church and denominational partnerships, prison ministries organizations, chaplaincy programs, and the volunteer Ambassador program.

Essential Duties

  1. Conduct and coordinate face-to-face meetings, communication, and other activities with churches, pastors, chaplains, staff and other key individuals through personalized attention, spiritual encouragement, donor appreciation, and strategic solicitation of financial resources which results in mutually transformative partnerships.
  2. Respond to and advocate for former and current incarcerated men and women.
  3. Initiate and develop effective engagement and prison ministry partner strategies; and represent Our Daily Bread Ministries (ODBM) Prison Ministries end-to-end, from prevention programs, diversion programs, jail and prison programs, programs that address recidivism, and programs that serve returning citizens.
  4. Identify, build, and manage a portfolio of churches, organizations, and individuals connected with ODBM that are focused on Prison Ministries.
  5. Plan and implement effective moves management strategies to steward these relationships.
  6. Consistently meet individual goals and contribute to team goals and objectives that help meet organizational KPIs and Objectives & Key Results (OKRs). 
  7. Work with internal partners to communicate and coordinate strategies for better stewardship of resources and better service of our ministry partners.
  8. Provide guidance, materials, and support for the ministries of ODBM that enables the Ministry to create resources that meet the needs of incarcerated individuals and our strategic partners. This includes perfect bound resources, “by and for” content, and digital resources that would reside on tablets and digital platforms. 
  9. Utilize ODBM’s CRM (i.e., MPX; Salesforce) to manage donor records and activities and ensure that all data is inputted promptly and accurately.
  10. When appropriate, introduce and utilize ODBM’s president, senior leaders, board members and field staff to build a broad understanding of the scope of ODB Prison Ministry and to assist in deepening connections and transformational partnerships.
  11. Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, contractors, and customers.

Study or Knowledge or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant work in prison ministry, local church, church network, nonprofit, and/or national/regional ministry working in jail or prison ministry. 
  • Experience in preaching, public speaking, worship services, church gatherings, and meetings.
  • Experience in sales and/or donor development.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Additional functions in using a CRM for donor and partnership development (i.e., MPX, Salesforce).
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. prison system.
  • Strong understanding of church and Christian nonprofits in the U.S.
  • Strong verbal and written skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities, while remaining goal oriented. Keep and manage records in an orderly manner. 
  • Experience in and passion for prison ministries, chaplaincy programs.
  • Strong cultural intelligence and ability to communicate and collaborate on diverse teams and connect in multiethnic and diverse spaces. 
  • Strive to live a life consistent with biblical principles, engaged with the Bible on a consistent basis and demonstrate continued growth and spiritual development.

Internal Work Environment:

Involves regular communication that may be complex and detailed with other departments and ministry efforts throughout the organization. Able to work collaboratively and in cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills necessary along with high emotional intelligence (EQ). 

External Communication:

Extensive communication with outside groups, churches, ministry partners, guests, and vendors. Must present a positive image of ODBM. Able to convert relationships into effective and sustained partnerships for ODBM. Able to make presentations to external audiences about the needs of the incarcerated while connecting back to ODBM’s mission, vision, and focus on bible engagement. Communication requires sensitivity, tact, and high emotional intelligence (EQ). 

Leadership Responsibility:

Leads a ministry effort and all aspects of a specific area. 

Stewardship of Resources:

Responsible for the assigned budget for a specific area. Has major input in establishing budgets. 

Miscellaneous:

Regular domestic travel.
