Our Children Oregon, located in Portland, is ready to welcome a Data and Research Manager to our team. We are in continuous pursuit of great outcomes for our employees, just as much as for the children of Oregon. This is a hybrid position requiring up to three days per week in-person at varying Portland locations, combined with remote work.

Position Description

The Data and Research Manager is responsible for identifying and monitoring data related to child well-being, analyzing findings, data management, and interpreting data to guide strategic decision-making. Additionally, this role manages the development of data and research products such as reports, fact sheets, dashboards, and presentations, ensuring alignment with our organization's mission and values and data integrity. Coordinating the production of our signature research publications and preparing data for the Annie E. Casey Foundation's KIDS COUNT Data Center will also be part of the responsibilities. As a key member of our team, this role oversees Research and Data Interns, provides grant support, evaluates internal data systems, and contributes to the development of our organizational data integrity.

This role requires a passion for racial equity, cultural responsiveness, and advancing the needs of diverse communities, along with strong research, analytical, and communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Identify and monitor data and research on child and family well-being. Compile, analyze, and summarize findings, and lead interpretation.

● Manage, develop, and present data and research products through data collection, research, analysis, and visualization, including research reports, county-level fact sheets, dashboards, infographics, presentations, and policy briefs.

● Coordinate and produce our signature research publications, Oregon KIDS COUNT, and other significant research and policy publications in alignment with the tenets of our Research and Data Justice Statement.

● Prepare and load data into the Annie E Casey Foundation’s KIDS COUNT Data Center.

● Update, compile, and present data and research in meaningful and user-friendly presentations (e.g., Tableau dashboards, and infographics) for varied audiences (staff, partners, policymakers, and the public).

● Develop and evolve organizational data/research strategy and associated projects in consultation with Team OCO by incorporating narrative/storytelling data gathering.

● Provide oversight to data and research interns who monitor child well-being and participate in compiling and disseminating data and policy research for various audiences (e.g., policymakers, partners, service providers, news media, and the public).

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with medical limitations or disabilities to perform the essential functions.

● Excellent research, writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills.

● At a minimum, intermediate level experience preparing data sets and data analysis, and ability to read and interpret complex materials and perform data cleaning.

● Understanding of databases, analytical tools, and concepts.

● Strong ability within Excel and Tableau; additional data visualization software preferred.

● Knowledge of and proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, and willingness to learn other programs.

● Ability and willingness to work collaboratively, and experience working in team environments.

● Commitment to seeking diverse perspectives through diverse backgrounds, with an ability to lead or participate in discussions that are considered inviting and safe.

● Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with an ability to relate to and win the trust of vendors, partners, leaders, and team members at all levels.

● Self-motivated, with a dedication to keeping up to date professionally and technically, and applying new knowledge to the job.

● Demonstrates initiative to explore available tools and resources to autonomously solve challenges, with a good understanding of when a leader needs to be involved in decision making.

Minimum Qualifications

● An undergraduate degree Data and/or Research sciences, Public Health or similar field.

● 2 years of equivalent learning in a professional setting will be considered.

● Any appropriate and effective combination of the above.

● Tableau Certification.

● Resides in Oregon, within a reasonable commuting distance of zip code 97232 to ensure ability to attend onsite meetings up to three days a week.

● Consistent access to transportation to be able to frequently attend onsite meetings and community events, as well as to pick up necessary supplies for meetings and events.

● Consistent access to a reasonably distraction-free workspace, reliable smart phone/mobile device, and reliable access to private and secure high-speed internet.

● Technologically savvy, with strong computer skills and the ability to embrace and adapt to changes to work-related technology.

● Good working knowledge of the primary Google business, productivity, and collaboration tools/software.

● Good working knowledge of the primary Microsoft Office programs.

Additional Qualifications Desired

● Enjoys being part of a small team and pitching in as required.

● Valid driver license.

Pay and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. $60,000 - $65,000 annually with generous benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k (4% match), life insurance, and progressive, life affirming holiday, wellness, and vacation leave time.
