Oswego Industries is Hiring a Custodial Lead Worker- MEPS Near Syracuse, NY

SUMMARY: Supervise and perform all duties as Custodial Lead Worker alongside facilities crew. Maintain superior standards of cleanliness and uniformity throughout assigned properties and grounds. Work with staff, clients, and Oswego Industries' management and Department Heads to ensure that all quality standards are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties required as assigned.

  • Daily work assignment scheduling to crew team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions and utilize supervisory qualities in relation to position’s managerial goals. Ability to train team members on pertinent information to achieve goals.
  • Communicate and cooperate with Oswego Industries' management and client requests for cleaning specified areas; to include diurnal email correspondence of daily operations to Operations Services Manager at Oswego Industries.
  • Ensure reported hours and assignments are properly reflected in payroll for all facilities crew bi-weekly, and forward to Oswego Industries’ management for final approval.
  • Evaluate performance and attendance of assigned crew.
  • Complete daily inspections of assigned building(s)/grounds to maintain a high standard of uniform appearance. Identify areas requiring special attention and instruct crew to inspect and maintain specified areas.
  • Conduct spot-checks of assigned facility interior and grounds for debris, litter, and/or flora overgrowth. Instruct and assist crew to clean, maintain, and/or trim these areas as needed.
  • Use and maintain company equipment (i.e.- zero-turn mower, blowers, weed-eaters, plows, salter equipment, and agency vehicle as prescribed) to facilitate a high standard of uniform cleanliness.
  • Work alongside crew to complete required custodial responsibilities.
  • Monitor supply usage by crew and mitigate waste.
  • Follow all safety procedures in handling of cleaning compounds and instruct crew accordingly.
  • Report all equipment failure immediately to Operations Services Manager to facilitate repair and reduce inoperable equipment time.
  • Ensure equipment cleanliness/maintenance for maximum efficiency and professional appearance.
  • Work with facilities crew to ensure timely snow removal including shoveling, snow blowing, and/or plowing snow away from walkways and parking lots; to include evenly spreading rock salt over icy surfaces to prevent slipping. Work hours may vary and be weather event contingent.
  • Ensure agency vehicle safety, security, cleanliness, and maintenance for maximum utilization.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train staff regarding all safety protocols in accordance with Oswego Industries’ policies as updated.
  • Ensure self and staff utilize personal protective equipment, where appropriate, to assigned task(s).
  • Express knowledge of blood borne pathogen safety standards and adhere to proper safety precautions where/when applicable.
  • Express knowledge of janitorial product and chemical safety and usage, in accordance with prescribed safety guidelines (information can be referenced in Material Safety Data Sheet).
  • Use of correct posture when completing repetitive movements and/or request assistance when performing a task would potentially require undue physical stress.

MAINTENANCE:

  • Service, align, set up, adjust, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that are of a mechanical or electrical nature.
  • Transport equipment, tools, parts, and other equipment between workstations and other areas, using hand tools, power tools, and moving equipment such as forklifts, assigned location company vehicles (valid NYS driver’s license required), and walk behind jacks or pump jacks.
  • Transport and position vehicles, machinery, equipment, physical structures, and other objects, for maintenance, assembly, and/or installation, using hand tools, power tools, or moving equipment.
  • Observe, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of errors or malfunction.
  • Assemble and/or disassemble machinery, equipment, components, and other parts, using hand and/or power tools to remove parts and make repairs.
  • Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
  • Clean and lubricate parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and test repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs.
  • Build and maintain physical structures as required, using hand and/or power tools.
  • Basic repair and maintenance of facilities’ structure and/or plumbing.
  • Adjust, connect and/or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts, using hand and/or power tools.
  • Receive, prioritize, and monitor to completion, all work orders submitted by authorized personnel.
  • Monitor and ensure maintenance of all safety practices and procedures.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors as necessary to ensure completion of all work orders.
  • Open and/or close facilities, and issue and receive keys as assigned.
  • Remain on call for emergency building/equipment maintenance needs after hours.
  • Assist in basic maintenance of agency fleet vehicles, including oil, fluids, wipers, tires, etc.
  • Communicate with Operations Services Manager to order or requisition parts and materials.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by Operations Services Manager or their designee.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Ability to supervise and facilitate training of crew members of various composition.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: GED or High School education, or equivalent with experience in grounds maintenance procedures. Multiple background checks must be successfully completed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Material Safety Data Sheets, and mechanical operation and maintenance instructions. Basic understanding of and ability to use MS Office Suite (i.e.-MS Word, Outlook, Excel). Ability to write simple reports. Ability to speak effectively and professionally with customers and organizational management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic mathematical skills. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
