Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
District Media Leadership (70%):
1. In coordination with the Technology, Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment teams, establish and
maintain a media and information literacy mission and vision.
2. Coordinate and ensure positive monthly team meetings
3. Serve as liaison between IST for media and information literacy and administration/Board of Education.
4. Ensure policy implementation.
5. Lead integration of digital citizenship into district curricula.
6. Ensure consistency of media and information literacy services across buildings.
7. Support Media Specialists regarding Chromebook courier services, inventory management, and technology product repair and replacement process.
8. Ensure the proper training and execution of duties for library paraprofessional staff.
9. In coordination with the Director of Technology, manage/allocate common school funds.
10. In coordination with building principals, manage/allocate department budget.
11. Operate within the Destiny Inventory Management System for inventory tracking purposes.
12. Ensure equitable practices are embedded in the enforcement of fees, fines, and damages.
13. Coordinate the deployment, issue, check-in, and return of staff and student devices.
14. Write reports for State, Board of Education and Superintendent.
15. Work with the IST for technology integration on the development of the district media and information
literacy plan.
16. Provide training (professional development) specific to media and digital citizenship needs.
17. Advocate for the media and information literacy program with the Board of Education, staff and community.
18. Guide/support writing of grants.
19. Write guidelines, procedures for policies (department handbook).
Media and Information Literacy IST – 30%
Student Achievement and Accountability:
1. Facilitate student-centered inquiry-based learning.
2. Prepare students to use technology appropriately through digital citizenship lessons, including digital rights and responsibilities.
3. Collaborate with staff to develop a system that measures student progress toward Partnership for 21st-Century Skills and AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner.
4. Foster global connections, providing the best possible resources and/or opportunities to students.
5. Organize and promote literacy projects and events that engage learners and motivate them to become lifelong readers.
6. Assists IST for Technology Integration in creating and integrating technology-enhanced learning activities that promote 21st-Century skills as needed.
Staff Development and Professional Growth:
1. Research and lead professional development for staff, centered on the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner.
2. Initiate collaborative teaching and coaching opportunities with staff to redefine current practice to meet the needs of all students.
3. Coordinate and implement an integrated digital citizenship program.
4. Support staff and students through professional learning communities.
Library Media Management:
1. Work with the entire library media team to deliver a school library media program which ensures 24/7 15. access to information and technology-rich curricula.
2. Work with the technology services team to properly inventory, check in, and checkout student devices as part of the district Learning without Limits initiative.
3. Identify, select, acquire, organize, promote and facilitate access to diverse information resources and learning tools that support the curriculum and students’ reading needs, adhering to Common School Fund (CSF) parameters.
4. Develop a balanced collection that maintains consistency with the alignment of K-12 academic standards, OASD policies, and common core benchmarks.
5. Train and support library media assistants and volunteers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
1. Valid license as a library media specialist - DPI Code 902.
2. Three or more years successful experience as a school library media specialist.
3. Effective communication and organizational skills.
4. Able to interact tactfully, effectively and courteously with students, parents, staff, and others encountered on the job.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
