Description
1. Follow district, building, and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Treat all students, staff and parents and others encountered on the job with respect, compassion and patience.
3. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and staff.
4. Administer drugs/prescription drugs by ingestion in accordance with school district policy.
5. Assist with the supervision and management of students to reinforce skills and use of materials and equipment initially introduced by teachers and therapists.
6. Prepare instructional materials and operate and care for instructional equipment.
7. Assist with large group activities such as movements, music, and storytelling.
8. Alert the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about individual students.
9. Wash and disinfect toileting equipment, classroom furniture, toys, etc.
10. Help students with dressing/undressing, bus loading, unloading, toileting, snack time, washing-up and school mobility. This may include a substantial amount of physical lifting.
11. Perform clerical tasks for classroom which may include filing, attendance records, etc.
12. Participate in team planning with Early Childhood teacher, Speech and Language clinician, and other team members.
13. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce skills and use of materials and equipment initially introduced by teachers and therapists.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May be asked to participate in shared decision-making and professional learning community initiatives, and continuous quality improvement efforts. .
2. Perform such other appropriate duties as may be determined by the professional staff within parameters of the master agreement, Board of Education policies, state and federal statutes, and administrative rules.
Qualifications
1. High School diploma or its equivalent along with 48 credits or more of higher education preferred.
2. Experience working with preschool children in an educational setting preferred.
3. Ability to interact tactfully, effectively, positively, and courteously with parents, students, staff, and others encountered on the job.
4. Ability to follow written and verbal directions as provided by teachers and administrators.
5. Ability to perform basic language, writing, and computational skills.
6. Ability to assist with the physical management of children as evidenced by successful completion of a back stress test.
7. Eligible for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction #883 Handicapped Children’s Aide license.
8. Ability to staff the position for the scheduled workday.
9. Possess basic computer literacy and/or willing to expand computer skills.
10. In lieu of the above qualifications, the district may consider appropriate alternatives to the above qualifications.
