Virginia Commonwealth University is Hiring an Assistant, Associate, Professor, School of Dentistry, Prosthodontics Near Richmond, VA

Mission or Goal of Unit:TheVirginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry is located indowntown Richmond, Virginia. With a 130-year history, Virginia’s only dentalschool provides opportunities for selected, qualified individuals to studydentistry and oral health through a doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S) program,graduate specialty training programs and a dental hygiene program. The VCUSchool of Dentistry is one of a small number of dental schools in the countryaffiliated with an academic medical center, the only dental school in theCommonwealth, and the second oldest dental school in the U.S. It is one of fivehealth sciences academic programs on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV)Campus of VCU.

Theprimary mission of the School of Dentistry is to educate practitioners ofDentistry capable of meeting the general oral health needs of the communitiesthey serve. Integral parts of the mission are research and other scholarlyactivity, patient care and service and leadership in dental education andorganized dentistry, and collaboration and participation with other unitswith VCU and VCU Health Systems.


Chief Purpose of this position: The School of Dentistry’s Department of General Practice andProsthodontics is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in theDivision of Prosthodontics. Responsibilities include didactic and clinicalteaching in fixed, removable, and implant prosthodontics to dental students andresidents; participation in service activities and research.


Position Responsibilities: 


Teaching:Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching ofpre-doctoral students and residents, in Fixed, Removable, and ImplantProsthodontics. Mentoring undergraduate dental students and residents inpreparation for private practice, service, and scholarship. Leadership as acourse director at the pre-doctoral level. All faculty members are expected toteach in an integrated curriculum system. Teaching across traditionaldepartmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members areexpected to foster transformative learning that is informed byinterdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creativeexpression.


Clinical:Will provide teaching and leadership role in dentistry clinics, seeingpatients, working with students and residents, and working collaboratively withother faculty and staff to promote best business practices, and increase clinicproductivity. Participation in the Faculty Private Practice; requiresdemonstrated ability to build a practice. 


Research:Faculty members may participate in research protocols and will workcollaboratively with dental research programs and investigators.


Service:The faculty member will be expected to serve the Department of GeneralPractice, Division of Prosthodontics in the School of Dentistry, and committeesand task forces as requested. In addition, participation in dentistry-relatedcommunity service activities is strongly encouraged.


Required Qualifications:•Dental degree (DDS/DMD or equivalent) 
•Eligible for a dental license in Virginia 
• Minimum of three years' experience in teaching pre-doctoral students and residents in all aspects of Prosthodontics 
•Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, andstudent environment or commitment to do so as a faculty memberat VCU 
•Demonstrated ability to contribute to and participate in a humanisticenvironment of learning with the ability to adapt to change and embrace moderntechnology 
• Ability, or acquire and develop such ability, to incorporateadult learning theory, evidence-based oral health care, innovation in studentlearning, and critical thinking 
• Fortenure eligibility: The candidate will be required to have awell-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinaryapplications.


Preferred Qualifications: 

• Board certified in Prosthodontics
• Experience in sleep medicine and orofacial pain management
