POSITION'S PURPOSE:

Patient Account Representatives are responsible for collection of account balances from OCI patients, as applicable. As a Patient Accounts Representative you will be familiar with practice contracts and be able to recognize, investigate, and follow-up on claim payments that are insufficient. The Patient Representative Team ensures all patient accounts are accurate.

The Patient Account Representative Team works all accounts for the following companies: Orthopedic Center of Illinois and the Orthopedic Surgery Center of Illinois. All collection action is performed by the guidelines set forth by the Orthopedic Center of Illinois.

MAJOR TASK, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work daily appointment report to identify self-pay accounts or accounts with large and/or overdue balances
  2. Speak to patients one-on-one to address concerns regarding the account(s)
  3. Field patient phone calls and investigate account inquiries; return calls the same day received
  4. Forward new billing information or any errors, received on patient account, to the appropriate department
  5. Responsible for contacting patients via phone calls to resolve outstanding account balances
  6. Work assigned accounts through designated work ques and task lists
  7. Maintain the unassigned money report.
  8. Establish Budget Plans according to OCI guidelines for patients
  9. Maintain knowledge of practice management and other OCI patient information systems
  10. Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with the HIPAA guidelines
  11. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior collection experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills - must be comfortable speaking with patients regarding financial matters
