Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina is Hiring an Electromyography Nerve Conduction Testing Technician/Clinical Assistant Near Raleigh, NC

Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina is seeking a dual role Nerve Conduction Testing Technician/ Clinical Assistant to work within a care team in our physician practice. This Physician has Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialty. Collectively, the team cares for 200 patients a week. Clinic is a fast paced and lively environment. The position is full-time with varying hours based on clinic and procedure schedule. The provider team has a clinic 5 days a week. This clinical role operates out of our Raleigh and Knightdale offices.

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus to be paid out over the course of 2 years. More information is available upon request.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assist providers in providing quality medical care.
  • Meet and greet patients while escorting them to exam room.
  • Performing Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) under general supervision of a provider to assess the function of peripheral nerve pathways in an accurate and time-efficient manner.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, peripheral nerve pathologies, and NCS protocol and instrumentation.
  • Calibrating and troubleshooting instruments to minimize noise and obtain top-quality recordings.
  • Recognizing, documenting, and accurately reporting to the physician any abnormal latencies, amplitudes, waveforms, or conduction velocities in the NCS.
  • Monitoring level of patient cooperation and effect on data. Using methods to increase patient cooperation/relaxation.
  • Assisting physician during electromyography (EMG) portion of exam.
  • Completing and attaching NCS/EMG reports to patient charts in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Monitoring inventory and notifying appropriate parties when supplies are running low.
  • Achieving and maintaining EMG Registration according to department standards.
  • Supporting additional projects or duties as assigned.
  • Complete triage process and ensure all information is documented in EHR, Athena
  • Administrative tasks including answering and returning patient phone calls, chart prep, disability paperwork etc.
  • Completing prior authorizations .
  • At the direction of the supervising physician, perform appropriate point of care testing and order appropriate diagnostic testing or follow-up care.
  • DME fitting
  • Preparing injections
  • Chart prep
  • Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in the patient record.
  • Follow all state and federal regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Other duties will be assigned by management as needed.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a High School Diploma is required.

Experience in EMG testing and patient evaluation in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred, but not required.

Clinical experience is required; Orthopaedic experience is preferred but not required. Athena (EMR) experience preferred. Medical Assistant Certification/Registration is preferred.
