Orthopaedic Associates of West Florida is Hiring an ORTHOPAEDIC TECHNICIAN - COUNTRYSIDE Near Clearwater, FL

In this role you will:

Orthopaedic Technicians work closely with Orthopaedic surgeons and physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The primary responsibility of the Orthopaedic Technician is to measure, fit and dispense braces, casts, and splints as directed by the physician. They explain treatment plans, research technical aspects of bracing, complete and through documentation to ensure proper billing and manage inventory. They also assist the Medical Assistants and other support staff with placing patients in rooms and any other duties deemed appropriate by their supervisor to make the clinic flow more smoothly and provide world class customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies and removes casts, splints, and DME as ordered by the physician and carried by the DME/Casting department.
  • Educates patients on cast/splint care, hygiene, and limitations during the healing process.
  • Provides patient with information and education on the proper use and care of durable medical equipment, ensuring a comfortable fit and optimal functionality.
  • Assemble, maintain, and adjust orthopedic devices and equipment to include plaster traps, cast saw maintenance, and durable medical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including cast/DME clinic patients, treatment plans, and progress notes. They must follow HIPPA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Answers patient calls or voicemails regarding questions, concerns, or problems with casts, splints, or devices.
  • Remains available to all physician clinics to take casting/DME calls for assistance. This applies to our locations with attached surgery centers and urgent cares.
  • Works with Medical Assistants in clinics as needed and assists with removing staples, sutures, and pins, and applying or removing dressings.
  • Assists X-ray and clinical staff lifting patients.
  • Maintains the cast room in a clean and sanitary manner by ensuring all patient treatment surfaces are wiped down with antimicrobial solution after each patient, overall cleanliness, and appearance of the patient treatment area.
  • Orders/receives, organizes, and maintains PAR level of cast/splint, DME, and medical supplies on a daily basis.
  • Attends department in-service trainings and staff meetings.
  • Assure compliance with all company plans, policies and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic Institute
  • All other duties as assigned

About You:

  • High School Diploma
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Meet the expectations of our internal and external customers in providing excellent service.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and with the direction of the DME manager/supervisor.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of employment

  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) license
