In this role you will:

OAWF Financial Counselor/Collector Job Responsibilities

The financial counselor/collector is responsible for providing patients with surgical/procedure estimates, collecting all presurgical and preprocedural monies due, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Must be detailed oriented with knowledge of insurances and benefits.

  • Communicates with patients over the telephone in a professional and customer service

oriented manner

  • Communicate effectively with staff and physicians by phone or in writing
  • Obtain booking slips from surgical coordinators
  • Enter surgical booking slips onto spreadsheet
  • Review all procedure schedules daily working 2 days out for upcoming procedures
  • Email team surgical coordinator and request any missing books slips for patients on the

schedule where no booking slip was received

  • Review insurance benefits/fee schedules to ensure patients are given a proper estimate

for upcoming procedures

  • Contact patients with their estimate for their procedure via telephone and review their

benefits and their payment deadline

  • Send a surgical estimate sheet to patient mailing address


About You:

  • High School Diploma required
  • 1 year experience in a medical environment with previous experience in medical insurance verification and benefits.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem solving skills.
  • Requires good judgement, tact, diplomacy, and ability to problem solve.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of some medical terminology and procedures.
