General Statement of Duties:

As a member of the OrthoIndy Trauma Fellowship Program, the Fellow participates in trauma and related surgeries, general patient management, takes call in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures, and completes a research project during the program year.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides medical care for patients under the supervision of the attending trauma physicians. Assists with the clinical evaluation and care of patients. Records medical histories, orders diagnostic tests, and updates patient charts. Performs surgical procedures under direct supervision. Effectively communicates the findings and results of all patient evaluations and care to supervising physicians.
  • Reviews end of shift reports and rounds with supervising physician. Communicates with extender staff to review details from any previous shifts or cases. Reports any clinical observations personally made by rounding patients on the floor. Reviews all ER admissions from the previous 24 hours.
  • Discusses and reviewed diagnosis and treatment plans as needed and provides further information regarding specific musculoskeletal issues. Expands the role of the fellow as a mentor and educator. Leads and directs surgical or medical staff.
  • Selects appropriate cases and clinic days to advance education while providing continuum of care for trauma patients.
  • Completes a research project during the program year. Meets with research coordinators to review progress of the project and presentations. Prepares materials related to the didactic conference schedule. Presents research topics and relates real life practice implications and future potential projects.
  • Participates in educational activities such as conferences, rotations, onsite labs and opportunities to advance techniques throughout the program year.
  • Reviews ongoing goals with the trauma program direction or senior faculty and submits evaluations of the program.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) or equivalent required
  • Physician Medical license required
  • BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association required
  • 2-4 years of related experience required
  • Must have completed clinical residency
