RESIDENTIAL APPRAISER
The Residential Appraiser investigates the quality of the construction, the overall condition of the property, and its functional design in order to estimate the fair market value. An outline of tasks for a typical project is shown below.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A BA/BS DEGREE (OR HIGHER) in financing, accounting, real estate, business administration or a related field, or any combination of experience or education equivalent to two years in a field that would demonstrate the capacity to work as a real estate appraiser. Examples include: previous experience as a real estate appraiser; accounting; auditing; tax preparation; real estate; a real property appraiser.
Experience: Three (3) years of active residential real estate sales or property appraisal, background preferred. Must have experience with the use of a personal computer using Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and must be able to accurately read maps, plats, and architectural plans.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of CAMA system is preferred. The position requires the ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and the ability to manage time effectively in order to meet production and quality objectives. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate clearly on the telephone and face to face, including the ability ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.
Physical Requirements: The ideal candidate must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with ability to reach, bend and move up/down. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of files or equipment. The position requires the ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and the ability to manage time effectively in order to meet production and quality objectives. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate clearly on the telephone and face to face, including the ability ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.
Requirements: General knowledge of residential appraisal methods, procedures and techniques and must demonstrate ability to deal with the general public, and effectively present information. Position requires use of personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and proof of liability insurance not less than $100,000-$300,000-$100,000. Must also successfully complete criminal background investigation.
Must be able to become a Certified Louisiana Deputy Assessor within 3 years and maintain professional designation. Possession of an appraisal license or Real Estate Broker’s license are desired.
Compensation: Salary range is $43,000 to $64,000 based on experience with a monthly car allowance.
