Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Medical Staff Services effectively leads and directs administrative and operational activities of the Medical Services teams. The Senior Director participates in discussions, recommendations, and actions of the Medical Executive Committees and the Credentials Committees.

Responsibilities:
  • Interacts with Physician Medical Staff Leadership, Senior Leadership, and other departments to develop and promote the physician led quality strategy for the organization.
  • Primary responsibility for review of quality reporting as developed in collaboration with Risk Management, Quality Improvement, and Information Services Departments.
  • Primary responsibility for strategic planning and development, integration and implementation, orientation and training, system upgrades/updates, and systems reporting to all downstream systems from the credentialing software applications.
  • Actively participatesin organizational strategic objectivesfrom the perspective of the Medical Staff.
  • Exhibits extensive attention to detail and requires attention to detail from all team members.
  • Exhibits and promotes within the Medical Staff Services Department excellent customer service to Medical Staff leaders, medical staff members, medical staff applicants, hospital administration, and internal and external customers.
  • Develops and implements all credentialing and privileging processes and procedures for all physicians and allied health practitioners, including establishing qualifying criteria for initial appointment.
  • Formulation and revision of all application and orientation materials; professional profiling for reappointment.
  • Works in concert with legal counsel and Medical Staff Leadership to facilitate amendments to Medical Staff governance documents to ensure compliance with regulatory, statutory, legal, and accreditation bodies and their required standards, as well as with Medical Staff Bylaws, Policies/Procedures, and Rules & Regulations for all facilities.
  • Conducts physician investigations(both behavioral and clinical competency), notifies practitioner of adverse action, and administers the Fair Hearing & Appeal Process, as required.
  • Ensures accuracy of system-wide process for distribution of clinical privileges to numerous internal clinical service areas.
  • Maintains data integrity, generates, and analyzes scheduled periodic quality reports, provides standard and specialized reports to customers, and process improvement/quality feedback to staff.
  • Plans, organizes, leads, and directs Medical Staff Services team activities; appropriately addresses staffing needs, hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines, and manages team, including establishing goals and objectives for the development of departmental human resources. Assists AVP of Medical Affairs to prepare, track, and manage fiscal budget and restricted account.
  • Ensures physician workflow system use is maximized and coordinate with other departments using the system to ensure consistent usage.
Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Masters degree preferred.

Certification

The following certifications are preferred:

  • Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) Certification
  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) Certification

Required Experience

  • Five years of experience interacting with hospital administration, Medical Staff Leadership, Medical Staff physicians, credentialing activities, or medical staff support is required.
  • Significant experience in use of workflow systems and development of reporting.
  • Experience with change management and streamlining of workflow processes.
