Monday - Friday! No nights, weekends, or holidays!

Position Summary

Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology and/or vascular sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or director.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Performs routine assignments using existing procedure guidelines.
  • Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from more senior level sonographers
  • Uses prescribed guidelines or policies in analyzing situations.
  • Has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the job.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and diagnostic information.
  • Works closely with the cardiologist to perform noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.
  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
  • Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.
  • Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
  • Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.
  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
  • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
  • Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensures safety of all customers.
  • Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Participates in supervising student sonographers, orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, and participates in quality and safety initiatives.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Assist in transporting of patients.
  • Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.
  • Assists in clerical duties, such as, but not limited to, printing reports, scanning documents, and scheduling of patients.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Maintains well stocked and organized work areas.
  • May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.
  • Assists with other departmental duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • May be required to work afterhours and call shifts as needed.
  • May be required to assist with contrast administration if pertinent to department.

Qualifications

Education/Training
Graduate of an accredited school of sonography. Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) guidelines.
Licensure/Certification
 Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); and

  • Registered in Fetal Echocardiography (FE); and/or
  •  Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); and Registered in at least ONE of the following registries: Adult Echo (AE), Fetal Echo (FE) or Pediatric Echo (PE); and/or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer(RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); and Registered in at least ONE of the following registries: Vascular, Phlebology, Neurovascular (through The American Society of Neuroimaging (ASNI)); and/or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Experience

Able to perform routine echocardiology exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode echocardiography and/or vascular sonography exams including, but not limited to, 2-D and M-Mode Imaging, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Carotid Ultrasound, Venous Doppler Upper and Lower Extremities, and Arterial Duplex Upper and Lower Extremities. Knowledge of equipment
operation and maintenance.

Pay: From $1.00 per hour
