Job Summary

The Financial Compliance Accountant will keep current with changing financial compliance rules and requirements and complete and/or coordinate the required filings in a timely and accurate manner. They will be responsible for assisting in completing state filings and data calls, preparing journal entries, reconciliations, assisting with the development of Financial Statements and other financial reports. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team in a deadline driven environment, be able to multi-task, and be comfortable taking direction as well as proactively working independently. They would have the ability to effectively work across various departments in gathering data and ensuring compliance with state financial filing requirements.


Role and Responsibilities

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and should demonstrate the following competencies to consistently perform the essential functions of this position. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of Orion180 operations standards, established security/safety rules and requirements for attendance. The requirements listed below are representative of the fundamental knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job successfully:

  • Document financial transactions in the general ledger.
  • Assist in the preparation of both Financial Statements.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by developing workpapers.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions.
  • Produce error-free accounting reports for review and include robust supporting workpapers.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Provide input into the department’s goal setting process.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Develop and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Communicate effectively with agencies and insureds on refunds or commissions.
  • Contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interactions with both internal and external customers.
  • Communicate with Manager on work status and issues that may arise.

Qualifications, Experience & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of (4) four years’ accounting experience or equivalent knowledge
  • Insurance industry experience.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with core knowledge of internal controls and Statutory Accounting Standards.
  • Understanding and ability to adhere to GAAP.
  • CPA preferred.

  • Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards, gaining experience in researching as it relates to accounting issues.

Physical Demands

While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and use standard office equipment such as computer, printer, and phone. In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop to open/close cabinets, reach for files or other standard office type objects.


Work Environment

The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due conversations, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company/department needs, project requirements or customer demands.
