Under the direction of the Senior Environment Manager, coordinate and perform all environmental monitoring, sampling, and inspection tasks to as required to ensure the company meets all legal, regulatory and corporate environmental requirements; help to promote and strengthen mine environmental performance and reduce environmental risk. Assist with management of environmental regulatory compliance obligations associated with approved permits. Assist in ensuring that practical environmental controls are implemented to improve environmental performance and maintain high environmental standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Comply with all OMC Health and Safety requirements, policy commitments, and legal or other obligations.
· Support the Environment Manager in fulfilling compliance obligations to mine site management, Federal, State and County regulatory agencies.
· Become familiar with Arizona State and local regulatory developments and their potential requirements for mine site compliance.
· Develop skills toward the goal of assisting other site staff to complete environmental monitoring and compliance activities for the mine site.
· Act as the Environmental Emergency On-Call representative as needed.
· Progress to eventual oversight and maintenance of all environmental data, including quality assurance/quality control applications.
· Assist with preparation of departmental reports, including but not limited to: Monthly and Quarterly Environmental Report, Annual reports, incident reports and wildlife mortality reports.
· Coordinate necessary support activities within department and/or other departments to ensure the work assignments are conducted on time.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science or engineering, biology, geology, hydrology or other related field.
· Be willing to understand local, State, and Federal regulatory requirements with goal of gaining experience in permit compliance, management and reporting.
· Be willing to gain experience in planning and execution of environmental monitoring and testing activities.
· Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
· Must be able to perform field work, alone or other personnel as necessary to ensure site environmental best management.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
· Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel.
· Be willing to learn to manage and maintain site environmental database system
· Must have basic communication skills, both written and verbal, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
Physical Demands:
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:
· Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
· Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
