Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative is Hiring a Journeyman Lineman Near Baker City, OR

Position Summary

Construct, repair, maintain, andreplace transmission and distribution power lines between generating stations,substations, and customers, requiring use of precautionary work methods andsafety equipment due to electrical hazards present when working on or nearenergized conductors and electrical accessories.

Qualifications

· Successfulcompletion of an approved apprenticeship program for an electrical lineman

· ValidClass A commercial driver's license (CDL) and associated Medical ExaminersCertification

· IBEWJourneyman Lineman status required before hire date

· Residewithin 20 road miles door-to-door from home to their district office

· Unionmembership is required within 30 days after hire date as a condition ofcontinued employment

· Highschool diploma or equivalent

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate all vehicles and equipment used in construction, maintenance, crane, and operation of overhead and underground power lines.
  • Perform substation maintenance, construction, and switching for both distribution and transmission voltages.
  • Construct, repair, and replace overhead transmission and distribution power lines and associated equipment. 
  • Patrol and inspect power lines.
  • Use equipment needed to safely work on or near energized conductors and associated electrical equipment.
  • Trouble-shoot and repair underground lines and equipment.
  • Perform work in a safe manner in conformance with all applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Install and connect both underground and overhead single and multi-phase poles, pole hardware, line equipment, and such auxiliary equipment as transformers, lighting arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators, using hand tools and following diagrams furnished by the cooperative.
  • Install or remove broken or defective conductors, insulators, cross arms, brackets, and other hardware by climbing poles or ride in bucket attached to truck mounted boom.
  • String and secure new conductors to cross arm insulators and splice or affix wire to adjoining sections of line to complete circuit.
  • Perform work on open switches or clamp grounding device to energized equipment or deenergized line or accessories as directed by supervisors.
  • Connect and disconnect routine and nonpaying consumer account lines.
  • Report all unsafe acts, accidents, or conditions to the Working Foreman or in their absence the General Foreman or District Superintendent.
  • Suspend insulated ladders and platforms from pole cross arms, cover energized line with fiber guards/rubber blankets to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service by power shutoff, and use long insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools.
  • Patrol power lines and repair applicable situations or report situations that require engineering attention or other work forces or equipment
  • Provide guidance and training to Apprentice Lineman.
  • Trim trees as required to maintain power line clearance.
  • Inspect work for quality in accordance with applicable specifications, and codes.
  • Complete all required documentation on paper and/or electronically
  • Maintain certifications of the most up-to-date and effective techniques of first aid and CPR, including pole-top rescue per OSHA requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned and as qualified to perform.
  • Participation in cooperative strategy and initiatives

This is a full-time position. Thisposition requires that the employee be available for work outside the normaldaily work period. Travel may be required within the four-county serviceterritory during the business day and infrequently overnight. Occasional out ofthe area travel is expected to attend various activities such as meetings,training and other events.
