Oregon State University Foundation is Hiring an Assistant Controller Near Corvallis, OR

DescriptionLimited Time Posting (7 Days)Reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting, Controller, and working in a high volume, high complexity setting in an organization with over $1 Billion in assets, the Assistant Controller collaborates with the Controller to make sure that all financial accounting records are accurate. Focus should be given to understanding and helping ensure compliance with the Company’s financial policies and internal accounting controls, as well as the timely and accurate reporting of financial information.
Work LocationThe location for this position is the OSU Foundation’s Corvallis, Oregon office.
Core Day Language
The Foundation offers a program called Core Work Days, a hybrid approach combining remote and in-office work days. Unless traveling for work, Foundation employees are in office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and work remotely, if preferred, on Monday and Friday.
Major DutiesAssist Controller in the annual financial audit, may review audit work papers for accuracy and completeness.
Help ensure the integrity of financial systems that provide reliable financial data.
Participate in the development and implementation of automated corporate financial and management information systems. Meet and confer with system users, technology staff and the Executive team, as required.
Help ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements.
Create and sustain effective working relationships with the Foundation’s management team, department heads, and with Oregon State University Business Managers. Evaluate needs, proactively develop systems and procedures, and effectively resolve issues and concerns.
Serve as key liaison with the Gift Administration department to make sure all deposits are accounted for.
Consult with Gift Administration regarding any changes in processes that affect how funds come into our bank.
Provide cash flow projections to ensure positive cash balances in operating bank (I.e., Wells Fargo)
Work closely with Gift Administration, fundraising staff, and stewardship to create new projects and enter in Financial Edge and CRM.
Prepare or review the daily interface between CRM and Financial Edge.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for operations bank account, currently Wells Fargo
Collaborate closely with Controller to provide account reviews and other analysis to university partners as required.
Perform ad hoc financial reporting & analysis for customers (University and Foundation), as needed
Working with Controller, prepare/help with preparing the 990 and related tax returns.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Applicable regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Financial analysis and management of financial operations in a not-for-profit environment
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement approved recommendations.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Produce clear, concise, and accurate management proposals and reports.
  • Relate to all levels of the user community.
  • Be a team player that motivates and educates other team members.
  • Comprehend complex, technical subjects.
  • Translate technical language to lay audiences.
  • Think openly and creatively and in a manner that demonstrates a thorough understanding of the fund raising and fiduciary responsibilities of the Foundation.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting or related area. At least seven years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed. CPA required.
