Oregon Health & Science University is Hiring a School of Nursing Doctorally Prepared Program Faculty Near Portland, OR

Department Overview

OHSU has three missions: healing, teaching, and discovery. In the School of Nursing, these focus to optimize health, prepare nurse leaders, and transform health care. Infusing these is a fourth: to become a trauma-informed and truly anti-racist institution. The School of Nursing has made the same commitment. The School of Nursing is seeking dynamic, productive PhD-prepared faculty for a research-intensive academic track faculty position at any rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). This recruitment will be used to fill two faculty positions. The faculty will elevate the School of Nursing's national and international reputation in research. Successful candidates will advance our educational mission to develop nurse leaders, scientists, and practitioners, through teaching, mentoring, and curricular engagement within undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs. The positions also involve participation in academic and administrative committees and faculty governance, contributing to the overall growth and excellence of the School of Nursing. The new faculty members will report to an Academic Program Director who is selected based on the teaching experience and interests of the candidate and is directly supported by the Sr. Associate Dean for Research. The appointees shall also provide service to the school and university in furtherance of our missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.

Faculty ranks are as follows, with salary commensurate with education and experience:

Assistant Professor with Doctorate: $118,702 - $136,507

Associate Professor: $137,665 - $158,314

Professor: $177,393 - $204,002

Function/Duties of Position

Research Excellence

  • Conducts cutting-edge research in the fields of nursing, gerontology, and health science, contributing to the School of Nursing's national and international reputation in nursing research.
  • Secures extramural research funding through grant applications and collaborations.
  • Publishes research findings in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and presents at conferences.

Teaching and Mentorship

  • Contributes to the education and mentorship of nurses, nurse practitioners, and nurse scientists at all education levels, with a particular focus on Ph.D. students.
  • Develops and delivers engaging and innovative courses related to nursing, nursing research, and health science.
  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and research supervision to graduate students.

Service and Leadership

  • Participates in academic and administrative committees to contribute to the School of Nursing's mission and objectives.
  • Engages in faculty governance, providing leadership and expertise in nursing education and research.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the overall academic environment.

Collaborative Research

  • Fosters interdisciplinary collaborations within OHSU and with external partners to enhance the impact of nursing research.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and researchers from various disciplines to address complexities in healthcare.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field (e.g. public health, social work, psychology, epidemiology, population health sciences, gerontology).
  • Evidence of scientific impact of program of research in accordance with rank.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentorship, with experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level in alignment with rank.
  • Experience with research and service as described above, in accordance with rank.
  • A strong record of research productivity, including publications, and intramural and extramural research funding that align with rank.
  • A history of participation in academic and administrative committees in alignment with rank.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • A commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in nursing education and research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research/scholarship that aligns with one of the two signature areas of research at OHSU SON (biobehavioral or health equity) or any other field directly relevant to nursing and health science (e.g., translational/clinical research, implementation research, population health) is preferred.
