Oregon Health & Science University is Hiring a RN, Medical ICU, FT, Nights Near Portland, OR

Department Overview

OHSU is a nationally prominent research university, and Oregon's only public academic health center. For over a decade, OHSU has provided exceptional clinical care to traumatically injured patients.

The Medical ICU strives to provide the highest level of nursing care to our patients and families, and to ensure positive patient outcomes through evidence-based nursing practice, all within the setting of a healthy work environment. The Medical Intensive Care Unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to the care we provide to our patients: 40kg weight minimum, age generally not less than 16 years with no upper age limit.

Diagnoses include but are not limited to:

  • Severe Septic Shock
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome ( ARDS)
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Organ Failures
  • Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Post Cardiac and Respiratory Arrest
  • Alcohol and drug withdraw
  • Patients also may present with extensive preexisting co-morbidities requiring the services of teams such as Nephrology, Pain Service, Infectious Disease, etc.

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role™]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN’s engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. Required Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
  • Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • Unencumbered criminal background check
  • Both BLS/ACLS must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)
  • Both BLS/ACLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
  • Self-reflective, self-directed learner who achieves progressive growth
  • Identify gaps in knowledge and initiate seeking resources to identify and manage risks, practicing safely with a wide variety of patient populations
  • Able to advance plan of care when there is a lack of continuity of patient assignments
  • Excellent time management

    • Seeking resources to support completion of work when going to float to another unit within shift

Additional Details

Usual Orientation Time:

  • New Grads: 12-16 weeks (Critical Care Internship Program)
  • Specialty Experience: 2-4 weeks
  • Experience, but not in specialty area: 4-6 weeks
  • Resource: 2-4 weeks
