ORCUI Utility Division is Hiring an Utilities Right of Way Agent Near Grand Rapids, MI

ORC is seeking a full-time, exempt Right of Way Agent to work on projects based out of Michigan. The selected candidate will have the flexibility to work out of their home office but must reside within a 100-mile radius of Grand Rapids, MI and be able to travel locally or throughout the state about 50% of the time.

Please note, this project is still in the proposal stage. We anticipate hearing about award of work by June 2024.
What you will be doing:
As a Right of Way Agent, you will acquire right of way rights per project guidelines and regulations, for distribution line projects in support of the Project Manager (PM), or members of the project team. Duties include preparing real estate documents, performing basic property research for ownership and boundary information, and communicating with property owners and their representatives for the acquisition of right of way. You will be responsible for performing general administrative work including but not limited to preparing legal documents, reports and correspondence, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents for file management, verbal and written communications with customers, customer service and related functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of Right of Way acquisition experience
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook, and Dropbox
  • Must have an iOS or Android smartphone to be able to access ORC's systems
  • Valid Driver’s License

Bonus points if you have an active Michigan Notary and/or *Real Estate License.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to clearly communicate and exchange information in person, via phone and email. Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers due to high computer usage and typing. Expected to spend long spans of time in front of a computer screen. Able to read, understand and interpret department related documents and data. The employee is required to move about inside the office to access files, office equipment and to interact with other members of the staff. This role requires the employee to occasionally travel to meet with clients or vendors which involves time driving; sometimes for long durations. While meeting with clients and vendors, will need to be outdoors traversing different types of landscapes. May be exposed to the elements (heat, rain, snow, cold).
