Position Summary:

The main job responsibility of the Community Education Specialist is to provide community education throughout the City of San Diego through community connections and networking that address the needs of all communities through a team approach.

Responsibilities:

The Community Education Specialist duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate Falck’s partnership with the San Diego Fire & Rescue Department.
  • Serve as representative for Falck San Diego and the EMS profession by participating in community educational events and programs.
  • Plan and acts as liaison to community events that meet the needs of local communities, agencies, and organizations Falck serves.
  • Organize, promote, and facilitate education events that promote community awareness and safety related to EMS in consultation with the San Diego Fire and Rescue Department.
  • Assist with teaching/training of internal and external classes as needed.
  • Recruit, train, and develop community outreach among the Falck-SD team and volunteers.
  • Develop and coordinate community CPR programs, including CPR demos, etc.
  • Develop and implement Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for Kids’ Programs, such as 911 services, CPR and AED training, bleeding control, etc.
  • Develop Public Information and Education classes (i.e., water safety, home safety, helmet safety, safe sitter babysitting, medication safety, etc.)
  • Prepare and submit required reporting to the City of San Diego.
  • Serve as primary Falck-SD contact for inquiries and requests for standby services, including the coordination of staffing and all equipment needs for each event.
  • Track and bill standby services
  • Research opportunity to develop and expand standby services.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, HR and Falck PR colleagues to ensure adequate sponsorship levels and prepare any needed materials.
  • Encourage community development through learning
  • Assess the needs of the community and report to the various community boards
  • Determine local interest and needs and develop plans to address through educators
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and personal communication skills
  • Operational knowledge of the local EMS system and five years of experience in emergency response service (EMS) and/or community education outreach
  • Knowledge of PC usage and general office software operations
  • Must maintain ability to be insured through company’s insurance carriers
  • Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum development
  • Project management and independent problem-solving skills
  • Effective organizational and planning skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to train and work with others
  • Strong people/relationship building skills
  • Current EMT or Paramedic certification at the level required by City, County and contract
  • Current American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the Falck-SD team

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/ or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Occasionally: Must have the ability to lift, carry and balance up to 15 pounds.

Frequently: Good manual dexterity, typing wpm 40, with the ability to perform all tasks related to the position.

Constantly: Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, possess hand-eye-foot coordination and color recognition.
