Oracle is Hiring a Principal Software Development Engineer JOIN OCI-Ns2 Near Reston, VA

Opening

At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we build the future of the cloud for Enterprises as a diverse team of fellow creators and inventors. We act with the speed and attitude of a start-up, with the scale and customer-focus of the leading enterprise software company in the world.

Values are OCI’s foundation and how we deliver excellence. We strive for equity, inclusion, and respect for all. We are committed to the greater good in our products and our actions. We are constantly learning and taking opportunities to grow our careers and ourselves. We challenge each other to stretch beyond our past to build our future.

In the Oracle National Security Realms (ONSR) we carry these values, along with a passion for serving our US Government customers, to provide a safe, secure, and highly reliable cloud computing experience.

Job Description

The ONSR Operation organization is constantly evolving, developing new processes, tools, and services to deliver a high-quality customer experience. The ONSR Automation organization is building a new service to enhance real-time visibility of OCI cloud health to better support our ONSR operators. This is a “built from scratch” opportunity but requires team members with a strong orientation toward operations as an engineering skill set and a never-ending commitment to the customer experience. You will have a unique opportunity to work with many OCI service teams as well as our partners in SaaS and other Oracle, government facing product organizations.

We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer to help build, operate, and scale this service.

Responsibilities

As Principal Software Engineer, you will be a founding member of this team and collaborate with your fellow software team members, and supporting architects, for the software design, development, and operations of our new product. In this role, you will enable the development team by driving design of major service components, working with engineering managers and TPMs, and providing direct guidance to more junior team members. You can go from high level system design, writing architectural documentation and driving engineering peer reviews to hands-on prototyping, code reviews and project bootstrapping.

You will design and develop code, unit tests, integration tests, use CI/CD pipeline for pre-production functionality, performance, and scalability testing. As an engineering leader, we expect you to raise the bar for the entire engineering organization – whether through best engineering practices, operational excellence, development process or shared code contributions. You will collaborate with other service teams and participate in our engineering community to drive the best possible customer experience – both internal and external.

Minimum Requirements

  • US Citizenship and able to obtain Secret Government Security clearance
  • 6 years of distributed service engineering experience in a software development environment, preferably on cloud-based platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI, etc.
  • Strong development experience in Java writing highly concurrent, maintainable code
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and maintaining large-scale infrastructure
  • Experience with unit/integration testing and TDD (test-driven development)
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, and operating public cloud service control planes
  • Good knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals
  • Good understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies
  • Demonstrable technical leadership and mentorship skills
  • Experience working with internal customers and converting request into actionable development
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including authoring design document, technical specifications, and product/service reviews
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related engineering field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related engineering field
  • Previous experience working with large-scale, cloud-based telemetry solutions
  • Experience developing and delivering software solutions in US government agencies and/or classified cloud
  • Knowledge of Linux internals, Linux/Unix troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience driving security reviews, documentation, UX reviews, and working with Product Managers from inception through launch
  • Building continuous integration/deployment pipelines with robust testing and deployment schedules
